Starting in 2006 (except for one late Frama issue in 2007), Danish Machine Stamps (automat stamps) have all been die-cut, self-adhesive, on backing paper. Normally they were dispensed in attached strips of alternating three or four multiple designs (1,2,3,1,2,3, etc.) or a few single-design issues. The first issue looked like a coil (straight edge top and bottom), but after they they have been "perforated" on the left and part of the top and bottom, with the right end not "perforated". On some issues, it is known that different spacing of the stamps on the backing paper exists (from different variants of the dispensing machines); as these are production differences, they are collectible differences. These are all real postage stamps, not meters or labels. They are valid from any location in Denmark, at any time, by any mailer. (Unlike meter imprints which are only valid from the location and on the date imprinted, by the licensed user.)
These stamps are collected in "rate sets", the most commonly used postage rates for which the machines had pre-set purchase options and/or which the post office offered in sets. The typical issue consists of three or four designs, typically with three or four standard postal rates; most collectors thus collect them in sets of 9, 12, or 16 stamps, depending upon the number of designs and the number of rates in the standard set. The imprinting of rates could sometimes occur in an attached strip of all the same rate, or an attached strip of the four different rates; many people consider these collectible differences. On some of the issues, the denomination imprints exist in more than one typesize / typeface. The dates are the first dates that the respective design was available in the respective postage rate period. Documentation about these stamps at the time of issue was poor and there is still not much published about the production and dispensing of these stamps, thus one has the opportunity to find unexpected items.
The dates are the first dates that the respective design was available in the respective postage rate period. If you are seeking items that are either noted as out of stock and/or are simply not listed, please send your want list. When available, I offer the smaller sets/strips of the minimum different designs as well as random singles -- in both cases, the denominations or the order of denominations vs designs in a strip may vary from the image on the website. I am interested in buying items, formats, combinations, etc., that are not shown here. |
