Semi-Official Airmail Stamp: 1918 5 Kr "DANSK LUFTBEFORDRING KØBENHAVN - SKAGEN" picturing bi-plane with Danish flags and map of Denmark with route of the flight. Very attractive design! In the book by Lüning, "The History of Airmail in Scandinavia", the author states that most of the stamps were sold for [the benefit of] charity and were canceled..." This is such an example, from a block of four that had fallen apart, canceled "BØRNESHJÆLPSDAGEN / KØBENHAVN / 14 MAJ 1920" [Childrens Help Day / Copenhagen / 14 May 1920], still with gum. Despite the comment that "most" of the stamps were canceled in such a manner, they are actually very seldom seen -- I have seen ten times as many Mint examples! This is only the second or third time in 49 years that I have been able to offer canceled examples (all have had a charity cancel) of this beautiful semi-official airmail stamp. [Mint Hinged examples quickly sell for $65-70 each!] Canceled with VF centering.

Semi-Official Airmail Stamp: 1930 5 Kr "ROBERT SVENDSENs SUNDFLYVNING 1910 17 JULI 1930" picturing box/bi-plane in flight. Issued to commemorate the 1910 Svendsen flight across Øresund. IMPERFORATE upper left corner margin example on 17 July 1930 COVER along with two Denmark #C2 [1926 15 øre Airmail] with KØBENHAVN machine cancellation and airmail LUFTPOST/2 hand cancellation. Blue-green "DANSKE FLYVERE" side handstamp. To Malmö, Sweden, with LUFTPOST airmail 17 July receiver postmark on reverse. Larger (9 x 6.25 inch; 230 x 160 mm) envelope, however still fits nicely on an album page. This must be the most "real looking" Danish semi-official airmail cover I have had in 41 years. It is from a stamp dealer, but I am guessing that this large envelope actually contained sheets (each four stamps) of these same stamps that he was sending to a philatelist in Malmö -- which would be "real" use. While not a rarity, this is scarce; I believe that this is the only imperforate example I have had on cover in 41 years. Lüning states that while 4500 perforated stamps were issued, only 500 imperforate were issued -- very scarce in any condition; extremely scarce on cover.
