9 [1975 50 oyru Map] WHITENED PAPER variety. When compared under long-wave UV light, the paper of the variety is distinctly whiter. [This observation is only valid on stamps that have not been soaked.] Ink color is usually darker than the average 50 oyru. This variety seems to be quite scarce. It is not listed in any of the catalogs, however, it has been known for quite a while and was further reliably reported by Quarles, but he was never able to track down specific paper sourcing information that explained it. NH VF single.

19 [1975 450 oyru Farm] "BROWN HILL" variety. This variety in which the hillside in the upper left corner is distinctly brownish has been well known since 1975 or 1976. Yet it has never been catalog listed whereas many lesser varieties have been listed. This variety is somewhat scarcer than the usual "green hill" stamps.

65 Olive COLOR ERROR [1981 10 oyru Rune Stone] NH VF single in Yellowish Olive Green instead of the normal Gray Green. Our late friend and Faroe modern-issues expert Art Quarles, who had many personal contacts inside the Faroe post office, was "absolutely sure" that this color difference existed when the Faroe post office received their supply from the stamp printer and that it was not a color changeling. I last had a few examples of this error back in 2007 and all very quickly sold for $250 each. I now have only four more examples.

94a [1983 Chess Complete Booklet] with SPINE PRINT, a black rectangle printed on the outside of the spine of every 50th booklet (to aid in counting for packaging bundles). This stamp issue was printed and made into booklets by the Swedish post office printing works; spine prints are traditionally used on Swedish booklets. Listed by DAKA GF10 2017 as #H2x. NH VF. This variety is remarkably hard to obtain.

1983 Nordic Costumes. 101 YELLOWISH GUM [1983 Nordic House souvenir sheet (costumes and flags)] Two types of paper/gum were utilized for printing this issue; they appear to have been printed / processed at different times, or in different batches, because the two types are also consistently cut to different sizes. I have not found any published information which states which, if either, type is scarcer, however, in my experience, THIS YELLOWISH GUM type is seen more frequently than the White Gum type (though DAKA GF10 assigns equal prices to them). DIFFERENCES: Under daylight, gum more yellowish; backside under UV light much duller; and consistently cut 120 mm wide (instead of 121 mm). Listed by DAKA GF10, however, I have never noticed any dealer offering specifically offering either type for sale! This is priced the same as the "normal" undifferentiated type I offer in the regular stamp listings. [If you do not know which type you have, but you would like to obtain the other type, AT THE SAME TIME AS ORDERING OTHER STAMPS you are welcome to send your example to me with instructions for me to return it along with the other type you need.]

238 VARIETY [1992 Leif Erikson / Christopher Columbus souvenir sheet] A "NEW DISCOVERY"! While this is a new variety to me and it is not listed in any of the catalogs of which I am aware, perhaps it has already been documented somewhere [further details are invited]. The top row of perforations is separated from the rest of the perforations by a width of one perforation row -- the top stamp is one perforation row taller than normal. This shows as a gap in the vertical perforations on both left and right. A similar type of perforation variety is cataloged for the 1983 Nordic House souvenir sheet -- that one is quite scarce with a significant catalog value and it is rarely seen. I had thought that the perforation of this 1992 souvenir sheet was done in a single operation -- all the perforation holes punched at one time using a fixed perforation comb -- thus either that assumption was not correct or else I do not know how such a variety could be created. This is the only example I have documented seeing or knowing about. Potentially extremely scarce -- at this writing it has been 30 years since this was issued, thus if this variety has not yet been documented, it is surely extremely scarce. If it is later discovered that this is not scarce, I will refund the price paid for this example. NH VF.
