U.S. Scott #300 [1903 1c Franklin] (VF) on 1907 attractive and very fancy (including gold coloring) embossed, color picture post card from Johnstown, New York, to Canada. The use to Canada is slightly unusual and the full-back (pre-1907, pre-divided-back) style is unusual. However, the key feature of this card is that it pictures American and Swedish flags, but the Swedish flag is a very unusual version, called a "pilot flag" or "diplomatic flag" or "Swedish civil ensign with the union mark in the canton", used for certain purposes 1844-1905. The card is American made and the artists did not get the Swedish flag details exactly correct, but this is the only example I can remember seeing in 50 years of this particular style flag on a picture post card. Swedish flag picture post cards are "fairly unusual", with 90% of them being one of a half-dozen designs. Anything beyond that limited group of designs is "extremely unusual".

58 [1891 10 öre Engraved Oscar] (VF) on 14 August 1908 picture post card (photo scene from town of Säfsjö) to the U.S., with RAILWAY cancellation "PKXP. No 2 A. INR. U.", Danish transit postmark (unusual on mail to the U.S.), and red U.S. New York "DEFICIENCY / IN / ADDRESS / SUPPLIED / BY / NYPO - I.D." handstamp. The so-called deficiency is that somebody could not read "Mass" as the state, even though it was right there. What makes this card especially interesting is that it is a HAND-DRAWN DIVIDED BACK card. Prior to 1 October 1907 divided back cards to the U.S. were charged at the letter rate. This sender was utilizing an earlier undivided-back card, dividing the back so that a message could be written without obscuring the picture on the other side. I do not recall previously seeing a Swedish hand-drawn divided-back card. This is an important type of item in the time line of the postal history of Swedish post cards.

282 [1939 60 öre 3-Crown] (VF) on unusual 16 June 1950 airmail picture post card from the small village of LJUNGHUSEN to the U.S. with airmail label affixed. The real-photo card subject matter is remarkably unusual: It pictures the Falsterbro LIGHTHOUSE and GOLF COURSE -- both extremely sought after topics. This is timely use of this stamp; it was still being printed until 1954! The surface foreign post card rate was 20 öre and the airmail surcharge was 30 öre, making this franking a 10 öre convenience overpayment -- or confusion with the 30 öre letter rate (plus 30 öre air surcharge). If the airmail label had not been applied, then this might still have traveled on a space-available basis without payment of the airmail surcharge, but the sender wanted to be sure that this traveled by air. Remarkably real-photo card subject matter.

1234 Brown [11 April 1978 Brown Bear (brown 1978 printing); engraved by SLANIA] (VF) with VF BJURSÅS cancellation, on 5 May 1978 picture post card [Bjursås village scene], used domestically. An exceptionally nice example with cancellation matching the card. This stamp had multiple possible postal rate solo uses, but was issued after the first rates first started: 1) Domestic post card rate 1 Feb 1978 thru 15 June 1980. 2) Same for Nordic post card rate. 3) Domestic "A" printed matter rate to 20 grams 1 Feb 1978 thru 15 June 1980 (scarce). 4) Same for Nordic "A" printed matter. 5) Domestic "B" printed matter rate to 20 grams 16 June 1980 thru 13 May 1981 when the domestic and Nordic printed matter rate categories ceased (scarce). 6) Same for Nordic "B" printed matter. The stamp was reprinted in 1997 in red-brown color, but it is unclear for what postage rate that was intended, other than as a make-up value.

J18 [1930 20 øre Gray Postage Due] (VF) tied by 31 August 1932 KØGE cancellation on 31 July seemingly unpaid (a stamp could have fallen off) picture post card (Kärnan tower in Hälsingborg, Sweden). No Swedish postage due markings, thus was probably mailed on the ferry or train between Hälsingborg, Sweden, and Helsingør, Denmark. Blue manuscript Danish "20 T", and the Danish postage due stamp.
