Ephemera: April 6, 1892 letterhead of the Chicago Cottage Organ Company with letter requesting payment of a past due account. It pictures the enormous four-story, multi-building company factory, showing stacks of wood going in one end (lower right of picture) and completed organs coming out the other (central alley below the smokestack). A freight train in the background suggests the importance of shipping supplies and completed products. The text also mentions pianos and the brand names Gabler, Schubert, and Kingsbury. The company seems to have been a family affair, with the President, Vice President and Corporate Secretary all being from the Cable family. The letterhead was printed by high quality lithography, but that image appears to have been created from a print of an actual engraving. However, the paper appears to have been of lower quality and it is now fragile, with breaks at top and bottom of the right-column of vertical folds, as well as edge damage [as seen in the website image]. Size 8-1/8 x 10-7/8 inches (201 x 275 mm). A great music / musical instrument thematic item that could be collected intact, or trimmed or windowed for showing in conjunction with a related philatelic item. |

1937 National Stamp Exhibition New York Museum of Science and Industry philatelic exhibition label souvenir sheet. Brown images with green text, imperforate. Two-section souvenir sheet: Right side picturing passenger liner, modern (1937) passenger train, zeppelin at hanger, and "flying boat" / "clipper" airplane. Left side with text. Lithographed by American Bank Note Company. Vertical central rouletted divider (for folding or separation into two parts). Mint, with gum, VF appearance. However has a thin spot on the right side (otherwise NH on right side) and a couple small bends. The left side has hinge marks on the front and back. This is the only example of this label souvenir sheet that I have encountered in 50 years; I do not know for sure, but I believe that it may be quite scarce. |

Attractive b/w image of an elegant bathroom sink with all the accessories and accouterments. Envelope size 7-3/8 x 3-7/8 inches. Great item for a variety of thematic "display" collections/exhibits. Unused, VF with faint bends and/or faint, small erased pencil markings (website image is representative of appearance). |

Ephemera / Cartoon Art: May 12, 1940 amateur hand-drawn cartoon strip "The Fumps" by "Benny". Found in a stamp collection -- it is too precious to ignore. This just demonstrates that very little is new in politics, conspiracy theories, or fools. The story: Person answers door and welcomes in guests. The conversation proceeds: "How dja [sic] like Roosevelt? ... Speaking of Roosevelt, too bad McKinley was taken sick and died. ... He was shot... No! ... Listen here, you dummox, McKinley was a victim of cancer... Big bum, you, McKinley is still alive. He was impeached... No!... No!... [fight ensues] ... Resident sits in wrecked living room. (Seems much like 2016-2021!) I am not sure why in 1940 they were arguing about the 1901 assassination of McKinley by a gunman. However, it just shows that nothing is really new and perhaps that we have another 40 years ahead of us arguing about recent events. Overall size 11 x 8.25 inches. |

Ephemera / Art: ca. 1940 amateur hand-drawn, colored automobile illustrations. Found in a stamp collection and too fun to ignore. Probably by "Benny" the creator of a 1940 cartoon strip "The Fumps" found in the same stamp collection. Each is on thin, tracing paper (or clothes pattern making paper). Pen outline, colored in. Similar, but different car designs. Interestingly the creator paid attention to developing surrounding scenery: desert, rural, city. Lots of fun. Especially for a car lover who has one or more ca.1940 cars like these. Some insignificant edge wear. Each overall size 11 x 8.5 inches. |

Founded in 1909 an example of an early worker aid association with the goal "to furnish financial relief to its members who are unable to work on account of sickness or accident." The most recent date noted in the document is 1925. A superb condition example of an item from a union precursor. |

Label: "ROANOKE, VA. / AN ALL-AMERICA CITY / THE STAR CITY OF THE SOUTH". Lithographed, rouletted label design (view of the city with mountains in the distance) with printer inscription "AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY, LITHO." Very attractive. The city was first named an All-America City in 1952 and six times subsequently. The huge star on a nearby mount was built in 1949 (it has an interesting history, see Wikipedia). This has the appearance of having been issued in the 1952-1965 time period. NH F-VF. |
