The "Official National" Christmas seals of Faroe have been officially sold by the post office. Almost all collectors of these Christmas seals collect Faroe issues as full sheets because most of the issues are multi-design. Furthermore, for most years, two perforation types exist: the top margin is either imperforate or perforated. Most collectors collect both types. There is usually little or no rarity or cost difference between the types, however, sometimes one or the other is in short supply. For this reason, where multiple types exist, I list an additional option of "JSA choice" in which I supply whichever type I have more of and thus can offer at a slightly lower price. If you only wish to have one type and do not care which, please order this option.
Starting in 1997, and perhaps earlier [I would like to know of any earlier booklets and any languages that I do not list], the post office created informational booklets that (sometimes) accompanied the Christmas seal sheets when purchased from the post office. The booklets were produced in up to five (or more?) languages (Faroese, Danish, German, French, and English); I have not been able to learn which languages exist for each year. Distribution of these booklets was haphazard; buyers of a single sheet often, but not always, received the booklet, but buyers of quantities of sheets usually received only one or none. In my experience, some of these booklets are clearly scarcer; of some I have only seen one or two examples. Because, as an American, my supplies over the years have been English, it seems from this perspective that English is common, however, in many overseas locations, English is probably very, very scarce.
There have been a few other earlier Christmas and charity seal issuers; I often have those in stock, please inquire. All Faroe Christmas seals (and those of all the other Scandinavian countries) are available on approval. If you have specific topical/thematic interests, please let me know. |
