Scott #RW4 [1937 $1 green Scaup Ducks] Used with VF centering. No signature, but has faint generalized text transfer from a license. No defects. Natural straight-edge and guideline on right side from one of the left panes.RW1-12 were printed in larger sheets that were divided by cutting along central vertical and horizontal guidelines into panes of 28 stamps, each pane consisting of four columns and seven rows. Ten stamps of each pane thus had natural straight edges on 10 stamps: 6 with SE on right OR left side, 3 with SE on top OR bottom, and one SE corner-cut stamp. Examples of straight-edge stamps showing the guideline are somewhat more unusual as the guideline usually ended on one side/stamp or the other of the cut. Due to reperforating by unethical sellers, examples still with their natural straight edge are now somewhat hard to find, especially in nice quality. I think that collecting straight-edge and guideline positions is quite challenging and rewarding. Quite attractive and with very low price. (Scott 2022 $65.)

Scott #RW31 [1964 $3 multicolored Nene Geese] Upper right PLATE BLOCK OF SIX, with full side margin, #168630, NEVER HINGED with VF-XF centering. Plate blocks of six of this stamp are EXCEPTIONALLY SCARCE because starting in 1959 (RW26) the printing format changed to the plate number being on the side margin at the corner stamp, thus the collecting style changed to plate blocks of four. However, this 1964 issue (the only thus) was printed once again with the plate number in the top or bottom margin, away from the corner, thus for this issue, the collecting style is once again (as are the pre-1959 issues) as a plate block of six. However, at the time of issue, most collectors did not realize that six stamps in the block were going to be needed so they obtained plate blocks with only four stamps. The Scott Catalogue ONLY lists the plate block as having SIX stamps! This stamp is difficult to find with such nice centering, to say nothing of so nice in a plate block of SIX! Incredibly crisp and detailed engraving impression. PRISTINE CONDITION -- wonderfully fresh and bright -- this is a single-owner example that has been carefully protected, in a stamp album, away from light, from the time it was purchased from the post office. It would be very hard to find a nicer example -- but it is also quite hard to find ANY example at all of this plate block of six stamps! A major Duck Stamp dealer prices this plate block at $2100, higher than Scott value, but does not even picture it or mention what centering it has. Other than that apparent listing (if it is actually in stock), a quick search did not reveal ANY examples currently being offered for sale anywhere. (Scott 2023 $1950.)
