1.  Large Greenland and Iceland Collections of Stamps and Covers Being Broken Up Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
I have just purchased one collector's extensive collections of Greenland and Iceland. The collections are to be broken up; I welcome your special requests. The strongest areas of the collections include:
  • Greenland U.S. military APO covers from the WWII era and after. Includes many very scarce items.

  • Iceland U.S. military APO, Naval, Marine covers and British FPO covers from the WWII era and after. Included are many scarce and rare items, including an amazing range of scarce Marine and Naval covers.

  • Greenland Village Postmarks on Covers mostly from the 1938-1960 period and including many scarce postmarks. (Additionally I also have an extensive stock of Greenland postmarks from all time periods.)

  • Iceland Stamps and Covers 1929-1945 including an impressive range of mint and used 4-blocks, some scarce FDCs, and unusual postal usages on cover. Some highlights include: a genuinely used 4-block of the Christian X 10 kronur stamp; a beautiful and rare FDC of the 1934 airmail issue; an early glacier expedition cover with rare special postmark.
If you have interest in items from any of these areas, please email me to let me know. Approvals are available. Don't wait -- most of the nicest items will surely sell to clients who have sent want lists or descriptions of their interests long before I have a chance to do the extra work of putting them on the website.

2.  Danish Encased Postage (Postal Currency / Stamp Coins) Collection Available Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

A wonderful intact collection of Danish WWII-era so-called "stamp coins" is being offered exactly as purchased. This large collection was built with great patience and care by a collector with a great eye for quality. It is by far the largest such collection of these scarce items that I have been able to offer in 34 years. If you want to start collecting a very interesting and challenging area of Danish philately, seriously consider this collection.

The full description, background information, and sample illustrations can be found in the Denmark New Arrivals -- Diverse Items section of the website. (At the bottom of the page; please be patient, the page takes a little while to fully load.)

3.  New Greenland Pakke-Porto Book Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
100th Anniversary of Parcel Post Stamps in Greenland
(Flemming Petersen, 2005) A handsome, officially sponsored book detailing the development, design, production, and use of the Pakke-Porto stamps, affectionately termed the Polar Bears. Hardbound and packed with wonderful color illustrations, many of which have not been published before. Text fully in Danish, German, and ENGLISH. Includes the first stamp of the series commemorating the Pakke-Portos (10 øre design; 50 kroner value issued in 2005), with spaces for the next two singles stamps and a souvenir sheet yet to come. (The needed stamps are/will be available from me.) Though a bit on the costly side, this is a wonderful, important, and beautifully produced book. I expect this book to become quite hard to obtain. As an official issue, it is already being sought by collectors who are collecting it as a postal item, as well as by those who seek the information it contains.

Order book on-line

Notes:

The book includes the first stamp (10 øre design; 50 kroner value issued in 2005) of the commemorative series.

The second stamp (5 øre design; 25 kroner value issued in 2006) is available from me for $8.50. (Usual shipping/handling costs, if any, apply; save by ordering with the book or with other items.)

The third and final stamp and the souvenir sheet have not yet been issued, but will be available from me when issued. Reservations are welcome.

Also available are attractive plate blocks, imprint blocks, official first day covers, maximum cards, and mint "stamp cards" for these issues.

4.  Large Worldwide Country Collections Coming Soon Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
Next week we will receive one collector's very large Scandinavia, U.S., and Worldwide collection consisting of nearly 100 volumes (mostly Lindner albums), plus a cabinet full of companion material. The focus of the collection is on never hinged stamps (some mint hinged on early issues). Of the 45+ countries represented, most are complete or nearly complete from 1945 to the late 1990s, with varying strength in the earlier years. Most "major" countries of the world are represented.

These country collections are so nice that many will be offered intact; it would be a shame to break them up. This represents a wonderful opportunity to start a new country, or build on a collection you already have.

If you would like to receive information about specific countries in this collection, please email me. The order in which I describe and prepare these collections will be determined by the inquiries I receive, thus your input will matter greatly.

5.  Special Offers: Collections & Albums -- Great Buys Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top
I am constantly buying large and small Scandinavian, U.S., and Worldwide. If you are considering getting into a new area and would like a "starter collection" (whether small or large), let me know about your interest. Also, if you are seeking used binders or used empty albums to match what you currently have, again, let me know. In the process of buying Scandinavian collections, many of my long-time clients (or their estates) ask that I assist in selling the non-Scandinavian portion of their collections. If there is something you are looking for, just let me know. Take a look at the current listings on the web site (but if you don't see your interest listed, please inquire -- most have not been listed on the web site yet).

I guarantee your satisfaction. Each item is one of a kind; orders will be filled in order of receipt. Payment by MasterCard or Visa suggested, but I will hold items for 10 days pending receipt of your check or money order if you prefer.

#731096   Danish West Indies Mint Collection 1855-1918
A very attractive collection of 54 different Mint hinged stamps, mounted on attractive 3-ring punched album pages. With 54 stamps, this collection is remarkably complete considering that Scott lists 58 major numbers plus 8 major postage due numbers. Scott 2007 retail catalog value is $1245! As is virtually always the case with DWI, some stamps have hidden faults or gum problems, but this collection is remarkably attractive. A very unusual offering; it has been many years since I have been able to offer such a nice looking Mint DWI collection! $295.00

#731097   Denmark WWII-Era Encased Postage (Postal Currency, Stamp Coins) Collection
During WWII, in Denmark, metal became scarce and costly as the German occupiers confiscated it for the German war effort. This resulted in a severe shortage of small-denomination coinage, a meet that was met by enterprising businesses and advertisers. A stamp was placed with a small backing card printed with advertising and the sandwich was wrapped with cellophane or glassine. Some ads exist only one color; others exist in a variety of colors. The vast majority (99.8% ??) of the stamps were 1 øre; however 2 and 5 øre examples do exist and are usually very scarce and valuable. There was a 1941 catalog that was reprinted and supplemented in 1974 (a used copy is included with the this collection). To my knowledge, there is no catalog that lists values, though some items are extremely scarce. When I have individual items available, the cheapest easily sell for $5 each, with many selling for more than $10 and on up. This collection is a wonderful and rare offering of 279 different "stamp coins". Included in this quantity are 6 two-øre items and 5 five-øre items; all such are extremely scarce. There is a tremendous range of designs and colors of the ads; the quality is outstanding. The collection is neatly presented on album pages with each item in a clear pocket (available from the APS Sales Division) that allows easy removal for examination. The collection appears to have been exhibited; it certainly could be just as it is. This wonderful collection was obviously built with many years of hard work and much love. Though I am sure I could obtain a higher price if I broke up this collection, it deserves to stay intact and be further expanded. One way to think of the price is that it is little more than the minimum value for the most common items with nothing added for the many scarcer and probably rare items. $1495.00

#731099   Iceland Collection 1876-1997

There are a few scattered faults in the pre-1940 period, but overall condition is F-VF or better with nearly all VF after 1950. Scott 2007 retail totals over $1000, so this one could well give your Iceland collection a nice boost! $275.00
