1.  New Items on the Website Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

I have just added over 40 pages to the website for Finnish stamps:
Gallery Select Stamps -- Particularly nice examples of stamps many people are seeking.
Bargain Stamps -- Attractive stamps with minor quality problems at very low prices.
Specialized Stamps -- Varieties, printings / colors, unusual postmarks, scarce blocks, etc.

FINLAND GALLERY: SELECT STAMPS

FINLAND BARGAIN STAMPS
Attractive stamps with minor quality problems.... at very low prices.

FINLAND SPECIALIZED STAMPS
Varieties, printings / colors, unusual postmarks, attractive blocks, etc. Some very interesting items.

OTHER SCANDINAVIAN STAMPS

I have added some very nice AUNUS stamps, including a rare #N7 used. All have certificates.

An outstanding Norway #218 NH VF+ with certificate has been listed.

An terrific Iceland #32 Used with certificate has been listed. Also a very inexpensive Iceland #31!

POSTALLY USED FAROE STAMPS

I have been fortunate to obtain a nice range of postally used Faroe stamps, from the first issues through 2002. The listings start here.

Those pages also list NH stamps, some Mint Hinged (at lower prices), and canceled stamps (sometimes town cancels and sometimes FD cancels) at lower prices.

If you need any odd singles to complete your Faroe sets, please send along your want list. I may be able to help.

UNITED STATES STAMPS

I have continued to add many hundreds of interesting U.S. and Worldwide Stamps to the website.

The United States section has a variety of new items, with special emphasis on U.S. Administration of the Philippines. You can also start at the U.S. Table of Contents.

There is also a very fun U.S. item, Scott #3987-94 (2006 Childrens Books) GUTTER BLOCK! This is cut from the press sheet and makes a wonderful "souvenir sheet" looking item. You will agree that this is the way it should have been issued! You can have this bit of great fun for only $7 (plus shipping if applicable). That page also has some very interesting errors and imperforates.

GERMAN and WORLDWIDE STAMPS

I have added a nice range of NH, Mint Hinged, and Used German Stamps to the website. Where the postmark is an issue for certain used stamps, I illustrate the actual item.

There are 12 pages of German Stamps listings -- hundreds of items -- on the website, so please take a look.

Germany Stamps start here.
Germany - Berlin Stamps start here.
GDR / DDR / East Germany Stamps start here.
German States Stamps start here.
German Colonies Stamps start here.

I should also mention that I have a reasonably comprehensive stock of German stamps priced from $0.25 to $4.00 that are not on the website due to the labor cost of putting them on. However, I welcome want lists for such stamps and I would be happy to send approvals from your German want list.

In the Worldwide arena, there have been a wide range of new listings. You can also start at the Worldwide Table of Contents. Please take a look for "your" country.

2.  New Printed and PDF Price Lists Now Available Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

Completely updated and revised versions of printed price list sent by postal mail or downloadable PDF price lists are now available.

My downloadable and printed/mailed price lists have been newly updated to reflect the many new additions to the website. These include the complete "regular" stamp price lists for Åland, Danish West Indies, Denmark, Faroe, Greenland, and Iceland. (Finland, Norway, and Sweden are under development; in the meantime, send your want list.)

Five separate updated lists are available:
   Scandinavian Stamps
   Scandinavian Specialized
   Slania-Engraved & Greta Garbo
   United States & Worldwide
United States Only (same as the U.S. listings in the United States & Worldwide price list)

These lists ONLY include items that are listed on the website. Not included in the downloadable / printed price lists are items from those few web pages that do not yet have "shopping cart ability".

[Printed lists of Specials Collections & Used Literature sections are available separately by request; they change very frequently -- it is best to check the listings on the website.]

The easiest and fastest way to get these price lists, or the most recent philatelic literature price list, is to download them as PDF files.

Alternatively, you can obtain them as printed copies by postal mail, however, there is a limit on how many times I can send such mailings without receiving an order in return. For overseas mailings, due to the high postage costs, there is a charge for the lists (but a credit memo is supplied in return). For complete information and to email your request to get the lists, go: HERE.

3.  News and Notes Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

All you hear about in the news these days is gas prices are going up! It can be depressing. However, you don't have to use a drop of gasoline to enjoy your stamp collection. There is no better way to relax and shed the stresses of daily life than to spend a little while with your stamp collection!

You also hear/read about economic uncertainty in the news. In times of economic uncertainty, prices of "hard assets" such as stamps tend to rise. While I emphasize stamp collecting for enjoyment and education, it does not hurt to know that stamp prices have had a solid history and equally solid looking future.

Take some time with your collection. Look on my website for stamps you are seeking. Prepare a want list (and send it to me) for some of those pesky stamps you that have eluded you. You will feel better and you will not have had to drive anywhere or think about the price of gas.

U.S. and Worldwide COVERS: I recently purchased a large dealer stock of U.S. and Worldwide covers. This well-organized stock emphasizes usages from the early 1800s up to the 1950s. There is something from just about everywhere, and many unusual destination usages too.

Due to lack of time, it will probably be a long time before I start listing these covers on the website. However, if you are an avid cover collector, I will be happy to send on approval the covers from your areas / topics of interest. This is the best way to add to your collection. Please let me know what type of material is of interest: Countries (and U.S. States); types of usages; topics/thematics; etc.

This stock has been distilled to contain mostly "better" covers in the $10-and-up range. Most are in the $5-40 neighborhood, but with some values up to $200.

While there are at least a few items in every conceivable category, the strengths include:

U.S. Early 1800s-1930s organized by State and Usage.
France & Switzerland are very strong.
   Western Europe.
Turkey, Turkish Empire, and covers from all around the world to Turkey. (The previous owner lived in Turkey for a while.)
Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait: emphasis on parcel cards with incredible high-value frankings sent home by foreign workers. There are some rare items in this section!
Airmails: flights and airmail usages, worldwide.
British Commonwealth / Colonies, with emphasis on usages from smaller countries.
And just about any country you can imagine.

Please send along a description of your interests.

Want Lists:

There are now 1647 pages (up from 1603 three weeks ago) on the www.JaySmith.com website! While that is a large number (and those pages contain tens of thousands of stamps, covers, and related items), the site is still what I like to call "a faint shadow of its future self". In the Scandinavian realm, the site certainly represents no more than 5% of our inventory (and perhaps not even 2%)! In the U.S. and Worldwide area, it is harder to know, but percentage is probably even smaller.

These statistics emphasize the importance of sending your want list. While I continue to work at expanding the listings on the website, the reality is that, without a single additional purchase, I could work for many years, 80 hours per week, on adding to the site and still not catch up! In the meantime, all those great stamps and covers are here waiting for you! All you need to do is let me know what you are seeking. Please send your want list!

Naturally want lists for Scandinavia are most welcome. However, U.S. & Canada want lists are welcome as well. The website does not even begin to suggest the depth and breadth of my U.S. and Canada inventory. I am prepared to send approvals from want lists for Scandinavia, U.S., and Canada stamps.

As for the rest of the world, my usual refrain is: "The worldwide stamps that are prepared for sale are listed on the website." That is slowly changing. The economic reality is that for NON-Scandinavia, NON-U.S., and NON-Canada stamps, I can't afford the labor cost to put "one-off" items priced below $4 on the website. However, I am slowly building a "prepared for sale" stock of such stamps (from $0.25 to $4.00) that can be sent on approval. At this moment, the only reasonably "productive" part of this stock is Germany; so send your German want list.

However, please do let me know of any countries that you collect for which you are seriously seeking a significant range of the "normal" stamps. This information will guide me in setting priorities for breaking down collections and offering the stamps you may be seeking. [The more I know about your interests, the more helpful I can be. However, if you are only seeking postmarks from Ubangi or only the great rarities, there is little chance I can offer items as a result of breaking down "normal" stamp collections.] I have dozens of nice country collections waiting to be broken down and the stamps offered for sale; if you tell me what you are seeking, I may be able to help you.

4.  Special Offers: Collections & Albums -- Great Buys Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

I am constantly buying large and small Scandinavian, U.S., and Worldwide collections. If you are considering getting into a new area and would like a "starter collection" (whether small or large), let me know about your interest. Also, if you are seeking used binders or used empty albums to match what you currently have, again, let me know. In the process of buying Scandinavian collections, many of my long-time clients (or their estates) ask that I assist in selling the non-Scandinavian portion of their collections. If there is something you are looking for, just let me know. Take a look at the current listings on the web site (but if you don't see your interest listed, please inquire -- most have not been listed on the web site yet).

I guarantee your satisfaction. Each item is one of a kind; orders will be filled in order of receipt. Payment by MasterCard or Visa suggested, but I will hold items for 10 days pending receipt of your check or money order if you prefer.

5.  Used and One-of-a-kind Philatelic Literature Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

Most of these books are one-of-a-kind, thus be sure to order early. This is just a tiny glimpse of the used books available. Please take a look at the complete Literature Specials price list -- it has much more to offer. I welcome your want list for any Scandinavian books you are seeking. "New" books will be in brand-new condition. "Used" books will be used, though in attractive and serviceable condition; these books may contain minor owner's marks and have typical wear, but any significant defects will be noted in the description. Most "used" books are in much better condition than you might think; many are pristine.
