89 pair [1921 5 øre Brown Wavy-Line Numeral] (VF) on 7 April 1928 seemingly ordinary picture post card to Sweden. However, the card is a very rare real-photo of Højerup Church taken on or very soon after 16 March 1928. The church, built ca. 1250-1300, is located on Stevns Klint (Stevens Cliff) on the southeast coast of the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in south Denmark. The church was originally built somewhat inland, however, by 1928, due to wave erosion, it was near the edge of the cliff. On 16 March 1928, the part of the church nearest the edge of the cliff fell into the ocean as the result of a landslide related to a storm. In this exceptionally clear real-photo card, hundreds of people (which would be a large assemblage for this rural area) are seen viewing the wreckage. The handwritten text on the card translates to: This is Højerup Church, you can see some has fallen down. Many people can also be seen on the beach below as well as a couple of boats being raised or lowered on the cliff face. This card, the "CNN of the day" documents the event. However, that is only part of the story: Stevns Klint is geologically world famous for clearly showing the "type locality of the Cretaceous/Tertiary boundary. In the upper part of the cliff, from here and upwards, we have the lowest part of the Tertiary, and that is called the Danian, and it is named after Denmark." This geologic boundary is found worldwide; it represents an enormously huge event, probably a cataclysmic meteor strike, that is believed to correspond to the extinction of the dinosaurs! In this photo card, at the right side, one can clearly see that the cliff is made up of two distinctly different horizontal layers of rock. [Google for "Højerup Kirke" and "Stevns Klint" for more information and current photos of the church and cliffs.] This card is rare for its timeliness and global significance.
