Group of 16 all-different cigarette revenue stamps from the post-1998 period; thus these designs are too recent to be included in the handbook we published in 1998. This group of 16 includes 2 different styles, each in 2 sizes, with 11 different denominations, and in one case (BAT 38.00) with different count of cigarettes, from 2 different companies [BAT = British American Tobacco and HOP = House of Prince (Skandinavian Tobackko Company, Denmark)], with various "betalt numbers" (in lower right corner) and various company code numbers (at bottom center). Also, one of the "triangular" design stamps seems to have some element(s) inverted compared to other stamps. In groups like this, it is likely that scarcity varies and in some cases a few items eventually prove to be very scarce. Due to the modern adhesives used to attach these to packages, it is unusual to find them in such nice (nearly perfect) condition as this group.

This is the largest group of these modern stamps that I have yet seen.
"Ekpres Post Lykönskning" 1925 40 øre postal stationery envelope. Express mail for greetings such as for anniversaries, births, graduations, etc. 240 x 160 mm wonderfully illustrated picturing ship, train, ancient burial stones, lion, doves, farms, families, etc. In my opinion, this is a leading contender for the most beautiful item of Scandinavian postal stationery. (There is also another version with ornaments, plants, and birds.) Though they have relatively modest catalog values, they are rarely offered and few collectors know that such beautiful items exist! Mint VF.

"DE DANSKE STUDENTER / 1." red and black design showing a book breaking a Nazi swastika: Group of two with significantly different colors of red.. An "ILLEGAL" anti-Nazi label issued during the German occupation. Extremely scarce; it was 38 years before I first had an example! Usually only found in poor quality [These labels are listed in "Maerkatpropaganda i Danmark: Antifascistisk and Fascistisk 1930-1945" by Niels Gyrsting and Peter Poulsen.] Both labels are mint, without gum. The darker red label is a bit dirty, but does not have any actual defects; the lighter red label is creased, has a tiny pinhole and some shortish perfs. Very scarce!

2 [4 RBS] set of 10 1951 "colour specimens" of the Thiele III printing on book page as issued. Shows the often-confusing colors. The set was only issued affixed to book page. Approximately 3000 sets were issued but they are remarkably seldom offered. On a per-stamp basis, they are quite inexpensive.

Denmark WWII-Era Encased Postage (Postal Currency, Stamp Coins) Collection of 53 items: During WWII, in Denmark, metal became scarce and costly as the German occupiers confiscated it for the German war effort. This resulted in a severe shortage of small-denomination coinage, a meet that was met by enterprising businesses and advertisers. A stamp was placed with a small backing card printed with advertising and the sandwich was wrapped with cellophane or glassine. Some ads exist only one color; others exist in a variety of colors. The vast majority (99.8% ??) of the stamps were 1 øre; however 2 and 5 øre examples do exist but are very scarce. There was a 1941 catalog that was reprinted and supplemented in 1974 (I am not able to offer a copy at this time). To my knowledge, there is no catalog that lists values, though some items are extremely scarce. When I have individual items available, the cheapest easily sell for $8 each, with many selling for more than $15 and on up. This collection is an excellent and diverse group of 53 different "stamp coins" and includes scarcer items such as PEN and SKIING designs. The quality is excellent for these, ranging from perfect to circulated. The collection is neatly presented on two clear album pages with each item in a clear pocket that allows easy removal for examination. Though I am sure I could obtain a higher price if I broke up this collection, it deserves to stay intact and be further expanded. The price is little more than the minimum value for the most common such items.

1882 "UPU Arms" design, 5 øre in black on smooth, thin yellowish-white paper, with small corner numerals but of a different shape and with completely different design for the corner ornaments. Listed by AFA Specialized as essay E32Bb. Imperforate, ungummed, die impression with very large margins. This is a precursor to the first "UPU Arms" stamps with the small corner numerals. Very scarce; probably less than 20 example exist, maybe less than 10. Accompanied by 2010 Lasse Nielsen photo certificate.

307 F-VF on piece with "DEN DANSKE BRIGADE I TYSKLAND / 1" 4 May 1949 cancellation used by Danish military forces assisting in the post-WWII Allied control of Germany, thus a Danish stamp used in Germany! While this postmark is not terribly scarce, it is not often seen on non-philatelic mail, as this piece appears to be. However what is really special is that the stamp bears a large "W" PERFIN -- I have never before seen a perfin on a Danish stamp used in this service.

FRAMA machine stamp of the first (1990) issue with 00.00 denomination. NH VF. Presumably this was produced by technicians testing / servicing the machine. I have only had two such 00.00 stamps and do not recall seeing any reports of others. Over time such items from other countries have proven to be extremely scarce.

Design of Scott #360, Facit #389, AFA #366 [1956 Jacob Christian Ellehammer; 50th anniversary of first test flight at Lindholm] ORIGINAL ARTWORK by the stamp designer Viggo Bang: Artist working drawing executed in India ink, pencil, and watercolor; black and shades of gray; on thick paper, 277 x 200 mm. Many similarities to the issued stamp, but showing the airplane straight-on and well off the ground. FROM THE COLLECTION OF THE ARTIST (originally sold at auction in the 1980s). A handsome, unique item of interest to both philatelists and flight historians. Such items are usually only seen once (if that) in a lifetime. Spectacular!

Design of Scott #360, Facit #389, AFA #366 [1956 Jacob Christian Ellehammer; 50th anniversary of first test flight at Lindholm] ORIGINAL ARTWORK believed to be by the stamp designer Viggo Bang: Artist working sketch executed in pencil on acetate, 180 x 164 mm. Composite-design pencil sketching of the outlines and key lines of the airplane; a straight-on view flying; and side view of pilot in position. The outline view is an exact match to the ink outline view also being offered. Believed to be from the collection of the artist (which originally sold at auction in the 1980s), but though from the same collector as other related works, this item is without clear provenance. (The accompanying container is marked that it was lots 449 and 51784 in unnamed auctions; from that perhaps the provenance can be developed.) A unique item of interest to both philatelists and flight historians. Such items are usually only seen once (if that) in a lifetime.

Collection of 1998-2001 officially issued "calendar" stamp cards. ("Stamp cards" are officially printed picture post cards that often picture stamps or may have designs related to stamp issues.) Complete set of 48 cards for these four years with the calendar stubs still attached. Attractively mounted with cover corner mounts on Scott pages (punched for 2-post and 3-ring). Some of those cards have designs with some relation to a stamp issue; others are just nice Danish pictures; all are very attractive. These cards seem to be scarce; I have never seen them offered for sale.
