1926 Forerunner Charity Seal design: 1926 Printing Perforated 11.5, rose-carmine and dark blue, paper bright white (bright white under UV). Daka #1A. Greenlandic Mother and Child in traditional Greenlandic clothing. Sold for 2 øre per seal to raise money for the education in Denmark of young Greenlandic women. The 1933 second printing is perforated 10.75 and printed in carmine to dark carmine and dark blue, paper off-white (darker under UV); imperforates and tete-beche pairs of the 1926 printing exist, but not of the 1933 printing. The approximate issue dates stated in the 1978 Wowern Seal Catalog seem to have been reversed. An imperforate 1988 reprint souvenir sheet was also issued for charity. (Please inquire for any items not listed here.) This first printing seal is remarkably scarce in undamaged condition! Mint hinged, with VF centering.

Greenlandic Mother and Child in traditional Greenlandic clothing. Sold for 2 øre per seal to raise money for the education in Denmark of young Greenlandic women. The 1926 first printing is perforated 11.5 and printed in rose-carmine and (lighter) blue on bright-white paper (bright white under UV); imperforates and tete-beche pairs of the 1926 printing exist, but not of the this 1933 printing. The approximate issue dates stated in the 1978 Wowern Seal Catalog seem to have been reversed. An imperforate 1988 reprint souvenir sheet was also issued for charity. (Please inquire for any items not listed here.) NEVER HINGED with SUPERB centering. Wonderfully fresh. Such nice centering is seldom offered.

1926 Forerunner Charity Seal design: 1988 REPRINT Imperforate (always) Souvenir Sheet. Illustrates an original sketch for the design, a subsequent essay, and then the final issued design. This souvenir sheet was issued and sold to benefit Greenlandic charities (it is not just a philatelic creation). Greenlandic Mother and Child in traditional Greenlandic clothing. The original seals sold for 2 øre per seal to raise money for the education in Denmark of young Greenlandic women. [The 1926 first printing of the seal is perforated 11.5, carmine to rose-carmine and (lighter) blue, paper bright white (bright white under UV). Issued in Greenland by the Danmarkimut Committee to collect funds for the eventual post-war reconstruction of Denmark. Sold through the Greenland Post for 5 øre each. Though domestic letter postage in Greenland was free 1938-1958, the authorities requested that all governmental (official) mail bear one of these seals from March 1944 until the end of the war in May 1945. (Per Daka Grønland Cinderella 1999.) Issued in sheets of 50 (10 columns of 5 rows) with straight edges on all four sides. Collected in three basic forms, and by some in all nine possible positions: Perforated 4 sides (24 stamps per sheet), perforated 3 sides (8 each top and bottom positions, 3 each left and right side positions) and perforated 2 sides (4 corner positions).
