Iceland: Covers: Military - American - WWII Era - APO 860  
APO 860 operated in Iceland at Reykjavik October 1941 through 21 July 1945 (per Facit 1995-96). Watch for the different styles and types of the postmarks, including the center date/time information and the location of the APO number in the postmark. The different numbers, styles, and colors of the censorship handstamps are also collected.

APO 860 (Reykjavik) hand cancel "JUN / 23 / 1942 / A.M." with the 860 at the bottom the the postmark. Sent free by surface mail. Self-censored by a lieutenant with the "215th QM. Co" and with blue round #61 censor handstamp. This postmark (with the APO number at the bottom) seems to be quite a bit scarcer than other types. Excellent quality.

Excellent strike.

Large circle (37-39 mm, not quite round) style. Sent free by surface mail. Self-censored by a lieutenant with the "5th Engrs." and with black round #0098 censor handstamp. This large-size postmark (with or without an APO number) seems to be quite a bit scarcer than other types.

This postmark (with any APO number) seems to be quite a bit scarcer than types with the APO number or that have had the number removed.
