| Iceland: Revenues: Customs Cancels - Manuscript |

| In March-April 1924 tax laws came into affect that resulted in collecting additional import duties / taxes on parcels and freight. It was not until August 1924 that the Tollur cancellation devices became available for canceling the postage stamps that were used to pay these taxes. Before the Tollur cancelers became available, or perhaps if a device was misplaced, regulations were issued that stated stamps were to be canceled by writing the postal employee name, and on each stamp, the date. Few stamps thus canceled in this short period seem to have survived; many were probably discarded because the manuscript cancellation was not "normal". |
