Norway: Bargains: Stamps Scott 1-21

These bargain-priced stamps are attractive, but most have hidden flaws. You can save a tremendous amount of money when you add such stamps to your collection. Each stamp is one of a kind, so please let me know if I may substitute a different example (that looks as good or better, for the same cost) if the stamp you order has sold. If you have any doubts, all are available for approval viewing. If you are seeking stamps of this quality and price level from any of the Scandinavian countries, just send along your want list -- I will be happy to send bargains on approval. Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise stated.

Each stamp has a thin and the left stamp has a vertical crease on the right frame line that is very hard to see without 10x magnification. Otherwise would sell for around $600 as two singles. Wonderfully bright color and overall fresh appearance.

10, Facit #10b Dark Brown (scarce color). Used with Superb centering and Superb 1865 LAURVIG cancellation, but with small tear in top margin above E of NORGE. (Facit 2005 value SEK 1300 = $180 for normal quality; without the defect, a stamp of this appearance would easily fetch $600!!)

10, Facit #10c Dark Red Brown (scarcest color). Used F-VF with thin and couple short perfs, but still attractive. Used in 1880 after the currency change, but with early period type single ring cancellation. (Facit 2005 value SEK 1500 = $210.)

10 Used Superb with Superb DRAMMEN 1875 single-ring cancellation, used in the proper period. Unfortunately, this beautiful stamp has a hint of a thin, however, the appearance is absolutely wonderful with perfect centering, deep rich Reddish Brown (the scarcest) color, and perfect cancellation. Without the hint of a thin, this would easily command $500, if not more.

Red mark in upper right corner from postal rate marking on a foreign cover. This example is an unusual light color shade for the Brownish Violet and perhaps deserves a listing of its own.
