On May 5, 1913, the Kristiania Philatelic Club "issued" proposals for two well-designed 5 øre stamps: Akershus Castle and the Geiranger Waterfalls. Engraved by W. Lindgren and printed by the firm of Emil Moestue the submitted printed essays were actually lithographed. Each design exists in red, blue, and green; perforated and imperforate (scarcer). Both perforated and imperforate stamps are found gummed and ungummed (they were seemingly "issued" both ways); gummed is scarcer. Prints and mirror prints also exist in black (very scarce). Also also exist with "essay postmarks" to show how they would look canceled (scarce).
1913 5 øre Akershus Castle essay in BLUE, Perforated, Ungummed, Very thin grayish-white paper. Superb centering (very scarce). Seldom seen so nice.
