Sweden: Bargains: Stamps - Scott #1-16
These bargain-priced stamps are attractive, but most have lesser centering or perhaps hidden flaws. You can save a tremendous amount of money when you add such stamps to your collection. Each stamp is one of a kind, so please let me know if I may substitute a different example (that looks as good or better, for the same cost) if the stamp you order has sold. If you have any doubts, all are available for approval viewing. This is just a small sampling, thus if you are seeking stamps of this quality and price level from any of the Scandinavian countries, just send along your want list -- I will be happy to send bargains on approval. Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise stated.

1 [1855 3 Skilling Banco] FIRST STAMP OF SWEDEN. Used with typical Average-Fine centering, but with expertly done repairs that most people would not be able to detect, and a couple slightly shorter perf tips at top. There is a very faint brownish line just barely showing through to the front from ink transfer from the original mailpiece. Otherwise completely genuine. Neat and crisp STOCKHOLM 23 April 1958 cancellation. WONDERFUL INTENSE COLOR! The vast majority of #1 on the market are either damaged or repaired (even if not so described). Facit 2018 value for sound examples is SEK 45,000 = $5850! This is a nice looking example at a very reasonable price. Accompanied by 2018 Jay Smith certificate with "lifetime guarantee".

4 Yellow Used F-VF with one rounded corner perforation, two faint thin spots, and an age spot on one corner perf. However, still a very nice looking stamp with full, neat postmark. Otherwise would be at least $650!

7 [1858 9 öre Coat of Arms] Mint Fine+ centered, but without gum (typical) and with thin spot. An incredibly clear impression and deep color -- this proof-like impression shows what the issue was supposed to look like, but rarely did.

7 [1858 9 öre Coat of Arms] Used VF+ centered example with wonderful perfectly upright and fully dated 8 January 1864 FALKÖPING postmark, but just slightly off to the right. Faint corner crease, not visible from front (otherwise would easily sell for $375). Beautiful appearance of a stamp that is not often seen with such a nice postmark.

12a Dark Carmine, "1855 Perforations" [1858 50 öre Coat of Arms] Mint VF, but without gum (typical). Great "1855" perforations (variable tooth size and blind perfs) and incredible color! (The carmine colors, Scott #12a, were perforated on an older machine with many bent or missing teeth, resulting in an irregular perforation appearance. These are referred to as "1855 perforations" in the literature. The machine was replaced in 1865.) The Facit 2015 value (with gum) for the Carmines ranges SEK 6000-8000 (12/14 US$900-1200). Very pretty!

15 [1869 17 öre GRAY Reclining Lion] Used with F-VF+ centering and completely genuine, however has a facial thin in the lower left corner. Bears two strikes of the "PKXP. Nr. 2" 1870 RAILWAY cancellation, one perfectly centered, but another to the side. It seems that the vast majority of examples of #15 offered these days are either defective, altered/faked, or repaired. At least this example is correctly described and appropriately / reasonably priced. Facit 2017 value is SEK 6,500 or about $750 for normal undamaged quality. This stamp is missing from most Swedish collections.
