Collections: United States: First Day Covers
I am constantly buying large and small collections and often have a variety of U.S. and Worldwide collections, lots, and accumulations available. If you are considering getting into a new area and would like a "starter collection" (whether small or large), let me know about your interest. Also, if you are seeking used binders or used empty albums to match what you currently have, again, let me know. Here are a few samples of collections. The listings below are included by happenstance. If you are seeking a particular country or type of material, please let me know. Payment plans are available. I guarantee your satisfaction.

Due to the low prices, variations in weight, and different mailing methods, distances, and destinations, shipping cost is additional for items in the Specials Collections listings unless otherwise mentioned. When ordering please include a note in the shopping cart comments section indicating if you prefer faster/costlier or slower/cheaper delivery so that I may more quickly quote the shipping costs and options for you.

Collections and lots are not normally sent on approval. If you have questions about an item, please inquire before ordering. Special return and refund limitations typically apply to such items. Please see the "Order Info" page for details.

Each item is one of a kind; orders will be filled in order of receipt. Payment by MasterCard or Visa suggested, but I will hold items for 10 days pending receipt of check if you prefer.

Scott #2286-2335 1987 North American Wildlife First Day Covers: Fleetwood / National Wildlife Foundation Complete Set: Scott #2286-2335 [1987 22c North American Wildlife] Complete set of 50 Fleetwood multicolor cacheted, unaddressed first day covers, official for the National Wildlife Federation. The cachet designs were (originally) painted by well-known wildlife artist Don Balke -- the paintings are very detailed; Balke is a master of this subject and really does get it right (a lot harder than many people realize). Making 50 different paintings under time pressure for a stamp issue is no small feat! A handsome and desirable set, VF, perfect condition, fresh and clean. Retail value is right around $90 for this particular set.

United States First Day Cover Collection 1970-1983 ELLIS ANIMATED CACHETS (3 Volumes): Tremendous collection in three volumes. Ellis Animated Cachets are humorous, cartoon-like, hand-colored. They are scarce and seldom offered. Offerings of these cachets on the Internet are few and far between, and then usually just a few here and there. This is a comprehensive 1970-1983 collection of approximately 452 covers, including many scarce, in demand, and thematic issues. The total individual value if sold separately is in the area of $2200++!! Whether you already collect cachet makers, or want to get started in FDCs, or you are an eBayer who wants to triple or quadruple your money, this is a terrific opportunity! [Sample scans on request to serious inquirers.]

U.S. First Day Covers 1977-1993 HUGE LOT -- TEN BOXES (About 4000(?) Covers) for $40 plus shipping: A huge lot of U.S. FDCs, without cachets, with addresses. There appear to be about 4 covers per stamp/issue, sometimes less and sometimes a couple more (but no big quantities). This is a very unusual offer at a price that would be extremely hard to beat! There are 9 envelope boxes of the small 6-3/4 size envelopes (each box originally held 500 blank envelopes), each box is full or nearly so. Also one box for #10 size envelopes that is about 2/3 full of #10 size and bear multi-design blocks, booklet panes, etc. I am GUESSING that there is a total of about 4000 first day covers, ranging from June 1977 through June 1993. These are blank (no cachet) envelopes on which the collector either typed his address or later had it neatly printed at a print shop; all very consistent and neat. At least some of the earlier years actually passed through the mail (as evidenced by small sorter machine numbers on the backs of some covers); later years apparently came back to him under outer cover. Whatever the count of covers, there are even more stamps than that because of blocks and panes, etc. I see the whole range of stamp issues including multi-design stamps (and blocks), sets of 50-stamp issues such as the 1982 State Birds and Flowers, etc. My price is about only ONE CENT per cover! The "catch" is that the postage is additional and these MUST be mailed (NO pickups or at least you pay postage anyway, but you do get the canceled postage; I am also trying to use up some postage -- I try to use useful postage that will have some value). Still, the total cost per stamp or per cover, with postage, is still likely be only two to four cents per stamp/cover. Postage cost will depend upon where you live in the U.S. and final packed weight (I have not weighed them yet), but to California I am GUESSING $140 postage; less to central states; and much less than that to eastern states. There are all sorts of uses for these. Some are simply worth a whole lot more; there are some $1-3 blocks/panes in this lot. There are folks who like these neat, blank covers to apply cachets after the fact (and those can often be sold for several dollars each). Or, you can just take out what you want and trade away the rest, or use them to get kids interested in collecting, etc.

As with other such items, shipping is additional and will be substanial. Ask for shipping cost. Must be shipped (no pickups; or you pay postage anyway but you do get the canceled postage).

U.S. First Day Covers 1990-1992 Booklet Panes and Setenant Strips: A very unusual group of U.S. FDCs of complete booklet panes or setenant strips. About 200 FDCs, all without cachets, with neatly typed addresses, on business-size envelopes (necessary because of the size of booklet panes and setenant strips). Of special note is that at least some of the cancellations had to be (because of the envelopes) the hand-struck versions of the cancellation devices -- those are not often seen. I can only guess, but I would say that the original face value cost was around $400! The stamps are from the 25-cent and 29-cent eras and each cover bears at least a pane of four stamps (thus $1.00 or more) and many with panes of 10 or even a couple panes of 18 stamps! There are folks who like these neat, blank covers to apply cachets after the fact (and those can often be sold for several dollars each). Or, you can just take out what you want and trade away the rest, or use them to get kids interested in collecting, etc. At only about 20 cents each, this is a bargain!
