Scott #RE177 [1949 $6.00 yellow green and black] Mint/Unused (no gum, as issued). VF. Wonderful appearance, but with a couple tiny, very faint spots below the "DOLLARS". Clear roulettes on three sides and natural sheet edge at top. This stamp has all indications of being unused and came from a 1950s-1960s estate that included some other unused revenues. As a used stamp this is very scarce, but in mint/unused condition, prior to the 2006 Smithsonian National Postal Museum deaccession sale of 25 examples(!!!), NO mint/unused examples were known to exist! This example absolutely far pre-dates that sale, and if this example had been discovered prior to that sale, this would have been the only known mint/unused example recorded. With the 25 examples from the Smithsonian sale, this makes a total of 26 mint/unused examples known to exist. (Scott 2017 retail value is $700 for mint/unused and $500 for used.) A rare stamp missing from almost all collections!

New York #MG1 [1900 Mortgage Endorsement, engraved, imperforate, green] NH VF in wonderfully fresh condition. The stamp is listed in the 2013 "The State Revenue Catalog" on page 438. Use started in 1910-1911, with this issue largely replaced in 1911; this tax was discontinued in 1920. The catalog prices used examples at $35, but mint examples were not known to the catalog editors! This type of stamp was little used and all examples are "few examples known". A beautiful stamp design that is apparently not previously recorded in mint condition (I discovered 6 undamaged examples and two heavily damaged examples). You can own one of the six recorded examples!

Scott #1 [1847 5c Red Brown Franklin] Used VF PAIR, very large margins all around, with bold blue grid cancellations. Left stamp with very faint additional red cancel. Accompanied by a 2016 Philatelic Foundation certificate stating that it is genuine, but that the right stamp has a vertical crease. No other defects. I suspect that 98% of collectors or dealers carefully examining this pair would NOT have found the crease -- it is extremely faint -- only just a faint bend really -- but it must be mentioned for complete accuracy! Very attractive and colorful. Nice large-margin pairs are not often seen. (Scott 2017 $850 for a pair, plus $50 per stamp for the blue cancellations.)

Scott #1 [1847 5c Red Brown Franklin] Used VF with large to very large margins and neat, light red grid cancellation. Accompanied by a 2016 Philatelic Foundation certificate stating that it is genuine, but that "manuscript offset on the back shows faintly through to the front, across Franklins forehead." The "offset" is from writing on the envelope upon which the stamp was placed. The show-through is extremely faint and is only seen if the stamp is set on white background -- if it is a black mount, for example, you simply cannot see any show-through. No defects. A very handsome example, with a very attractive postmark!

Accompanied by a 2016 Philatelic Foundation certificate stating that it is genuine, but that it is "lightly soiled". No defects. Though under normal viewing the stamp looks typical, under 10x magnification, I can see what the certificate refers to; however it looks to me like it could just as easily be a little excess printing ink as anything else. Quite attractive and seldom offered. (Scott 2017 value $800!) Very reasonably priced at less than half Scott!

Scott #1 [1847 5c Red Brown Franklin] Used Fine appearance with two large margins, one closer, one just touching. Well-centered red grid cancellation. Accompanied by a 2016 Philatelic Foundation certificate stating that it is genuine, but that it has been "cleaned, significantly affecting color, and with tiny nick at upper left." No other defects. In my opinion, something has affected the color (making it darker), but if there was cleaning in an attempt to remove the cancel, the cancel was unaffected. The so-called "nick" is out in the margin and could be simply cut off, still leaving a full margin. (Scott 2017 value $375.) Very low price for a #1!

Scott #1 [1847 5c Red Brown Franklin] Used VF appearance with four full to large margins. Neat, light red grid cancellation. Accompanied by a 2016 Philatelic Foundation "WARNING STATEMENT" certificate stating that "It is a used Scott 1, the stamp cleaned to remove a manuscript cancel, affecting color." No other defects. While the color may have been affected according to the PF, the color seems, to me, to be within the range of color shades of several others I have in stock with "good" certificates. Without a deep study of the stamp, one would not know about the problem. With the light red cancel and full margins, this is a nice looking stamp! (Scott 2017 value $375.) Very low price for a #1!

Customs Baggage Stamp: Ivester #CB155 Black with B serial number [listed in ARA September-October 2008 (Vol. 62, No. 5) -- you can find the PDF by searching on Google for "catalog of customs inspected baggage stamps"] Used VF (typical wear) on a 1962 oval green and black Holland-America Line tourist class baggage tag. This stamp design was first introduced in July 1958. Such stamps are not listed by Scott, but these revenues are official issues of the U.S. Even though only of modest catalog value, these stamps are usually in terrible condition; undamaged example tied on baggage labels are very much sought after.

Scott #11/12 facsimile "mint". Sometimes described as reprints, these are facsimiles made for collectors (I believe that these date from the 1950s), but they are still quite collectible. I do not know for sure, but I suspect that the various backprinting versions of these exist; compare to what you have.

United States Nineteenth Century Stamps with Target Cancels Collection: Attractive assemblage of about 125 19th century stamps with target (rings) or "bullseye" killer cancellations. Majority are Banknote issues including a few better values (Scott #159, 205, 216, two 1 cent War Department #O114, #183 pair with blue strikes, 226 pair with violet, etc., plus some First Bureaus and a few Columbians. Incredible variety in size and number of rings -- some are surely scarce. Quality varies: many are F-VF, and some VF, but some were selected for the cancel quality rather than the stamp quality. Overall a very nice representation of this target style of killer postmarks. This could easily be expanded and developed into a stunning collection! Shipping cost is additional for this item.

1286 [1967 10 cent Pres. Andrew Jackson, tagged] NH VF full sheet with MISPERFORATION. The vertical perforations are shifted 3-4 mm to the left, cutting off the W and N on the right side of each stamp. The marginal inscriptions (plate number 34348, mail early in the day, and use zip codes) on the left side of the sheet are not in the selvage, but are ON THE RESPECTIVE STAMPS! Unlike coil issues, it is extraordinarily unusual to find sheet stamps with plate numbers actually on the stamp. This misperforation may have affected as few as one printer sheet of 400 (4 panes of 100), in which case only four may have originally existed; because the four sheet positions would thus have been packaged and distributed separately, it is very possible that this is the only remaining example. I have found a few other misperforations of this issue (but none just like this) being offered for $5 to $35 per stamp (none involved the plate number). I believe that the break-up value of this sheet is about $250 for the plate strip of 20 and $5/stamp (perhaps should be $8-10) for the other 80 stamps, totaling $650 break-up value. I offer this full sheet for HALF the break-up value.
