1988 "Discount Package", Facit booklet #H1a [1988 Posten 350: 350th anniversary of Åland postal service]. Though this does not look like a traditional booklet, it is classified as a booklet by Facit. It is a post office printed envelope containing a 10-block of stamps. Sold 1 February - 31 May 1988: Every Åland household received six coupons to purchase the package for 14.00 marks, instead of the 18.00 mark face value. Then on 10 October 1988 to celebrate International Letter Writing Day, the post office gave 3200 more packages to teachers and students (of the 3200, 2747 were this stamp issue and 453 were the 1.80 mk Sailing Ship issue). These packages are quite difficult to obtain and are listed by Facit at SEK 650 = US$100 (though they are seldom offered). REPRESENTATIVE image of stamp design. |

Originally, packages containing 10-blocks of the Posten 350 stamp were sold 1 February - 31 May 1988: Every Åland household received six coupons to purchase the package for 14.00 marks, instead of the 18.00 mark face value. Then on 10 October 1988 to celebrate International Letter Writing Day, the post office gave 3200 more packages to teachers and students (of the 3200, 2747 were the Posten 350 stamp issue and 453 were THIS 1.80 mk Sailing Ship issue). Thus the packages containing THIS Sailing Ship stamp issue were not sold, but were given away -- only 453 of them! These packages with the Sailing Ship stamps are very scarce. Despite their rarity the are listed by Facit at only SEK 650 = US$100 because it is possible to replace a Posten 350 block with a Sailing Ship block.
