"SANDVIK pr. TVØROYRI" village cancellation. This style of FDC was made with cancellations at various (perhaps all?) villages -- it would be fun to try to find more of them. While it is hard to think of such an item as "scarce", it has been almost 50 years since this was issued and I have only had three or four of these particular covers (canceled at various villages).

2016 Codfish. 2016 Codfish Full Pane/6 FDC. The full pane of six on plain envelope. There was no official cacheted envelope prepared for the full pane; this is what was supplied by the post office. Very few such full pane FDCs were sold -- I have only seen this one example. The cost is high because the face value was high and because of the scarcity; still it is priced at only about double the original face value, which is standard pricing for modern FDCs. [This Codfish stamp production method is unique and every stamp is unique: A piece of dried codfish skin (the yellow part in the image) was applied to the stamp and then printed in red by typography. The skin pattern is different on every stamp, thus every stamp is unique.]

1979 Faroe "2" and "2" 140 oyru Provisional Overprint (Europa) Issue FULL SHEET of ESSAYS (proposed stamp design) by stamp designer Holger Philipsen, the designer of the issued set of stamps. These essays are said to have been produced in the process of designing the stamp issue. Depending upon how you count them, I know of five or six essay designs/formats, plus perforation differences on one or two of them. Though modern, they seem to be very scarce -- some seem to be much scarcer than others; I only learned of some of them in 2003 and some I have not yet actually owned. THIS design is vertically oriented with the Danish 5 øre stamp with two handwritten "2" numerals covering the "5"s; the Danish stamp is on a blue background with "ESSAY 1 1919" in white. Below that is "140 / FØROYAR" in blue outline with red filling. All on a white background with blue simulated (printed) perforation outlines. This is in a 5x5 sheet surrounded by a thin blue border frameline; the frameline rectangle measures 134 x 171 mm. Below that is an 26th stamp oriented sideways, with registration marks to the left and right. Next to that is handwritten text "RØD" (in red), "ULTRAMIN" crossed out and "HIMMELBLÅ" written below (all in blue), and "GRØN" (in green). Everything is printed (i.e. the "handwriting" is a printed image of handwriting). The overall size of the entire item is 175 x 274 mm. This general format and concept (vertical, colored background block, positioning of the text, etc.) is very much like the 180 oyru issued stamp (Scott #44) except that this essay pictures an original essay of the overprint (with two "2" numerals) but the final issued 1979 stamp pictures the final issued overprinted Scott #1. This is a very attractive essay -- it is too bad that this design was not an additional member of the issued set of stamps. The original handwritten essay (two "2" numerals) was eventually pictured as part of the 2019 100th anniversary souvenir sheet. Perhaps this essay will be used for the design of a future anniversary of the 1919 issue.

2019 "Old Watermill" BLACKPRINT design of the 35 kr stamp of the set, Scott #???. These little-known artifacts of Faroe life were already in use in the late 1700s. They were entirely built in the Faroes, except the millstone had to be imported due to lack of the suitable type of rock in the Faroes. They were mostly very small -- this one shows the height of the building is not much more than a man. Imperforate, NH VF. Engraved by Martin Mörck. 1994 20 Kr Horses stamp design "Postcard Puzzle". An officially issued postal product consisting of a post card onto which a puzzle is attached (and wrapped in plastic so the pieces will not get lost in the mail). A rather odd type of postal product. Only one other was issued at about the same time, picturing the Sheep Dog stamp design. The puzzles were last listed in the 2000 Daka GF10 catalog. I have known about them since the late 1990s, but this is (in 2012) the first time I have ever actually seen one. The catalog value was nominal -- I doubt the catalog publisher had ever actually seen one either -- but it is a very scarce item.
