All post-1974 stamps are VF and fresh. See description details for earlier issues.
All post-1974 regular stamp issues can also be supplied in blocks, plate blocks, and mini sheets (when such formats exist).
Faroe first started issuing machine stamps on October 9, 2008, using machines made by aCon (the same Danish machine company that produces Danish machine stamps). While these stamps were not made from the type of machines produced by the Frama company, many people call all machine stamps "FRAMA" stamps. Others call them "automat" stamps or ATM labels. These are real postage stamps, not meters or labels. They are valid from any location in the Faroes, at any time, by any mailer. (Unlike meter imprints which are only valid from the location and on the date imprinted, by the licensed user.)
The first (2008) issue had three printings of the actual stamps, with small differences in the printing color under the denomination, margin size, and the backing paper color. The 2009 issue had two identical printings, while the later issues each had only one known printing. Two types of machines, resulting in different appearance of the imprints, applied the denomination and code imprints: the "fast" printers used at the post office counters and philatelic office (which I will call "office" machines) vs the public kiosk printers used in various outlets and small post offices. The "fast" printers initially had small font denominations, but during 2008-2009 they were changed over to a larger font denomination (the 2008 and 2009 issues exist with both denomination sizes). The kiosk machines have a large denomination, but the right side of the denomination is shifted slightly to the left instead of flush right with the code. It is likely that the vast majority of the mint or canceled to order strips on the market are from a very limited set of printing and imprint-type combination possibilities; mint strips of some combination possibilities are likely to be very scarce. It is likely that postally used examples come from a wider range of possible combinations. Details and illustrations can be found in the Daka GF 10 Faroe Catalog, 2017, Edition 22 available from me. |
