28 [1881 20 penni light ultramarine 4-Numeral (1882-1884 printing)] PLATE PROOF in LIGHT ULTRAMARINE with variable impression on ungummed, white paper, in imperforate right-margin horizontal pair. Never Hinged (never gummed), VF with large margins. Proof from original plate, NOT printed later from defaced, scrapped plate. Proofs of the 20 penni are not well documented. I cannot recall previously seeing this color shade. Wonderfully fresh. Proofs of this issue are quite scarce and are seldom offered.

Single, NEVER HINGED, with Fine centering that is typical for the normal stamp issue. Proof from original plate, NOT printed later from defaced, scrapped plate. (I have also had examples without the crosshairs.) Very fresh and bright. Perforated proofs in general are "rare" and proofs of the 2 penni stamp are quite scarce and rarely offered.

100 [1921 75 penni yellow M-17 Saarinen Lion] PLATE PROOF on thin, coarse, brownish yellow paper. Right margin HORIZONTAL PAIR. There are a couple of tiny inclusion spots resulting from particles in the coarse paper. Mint, Never Hinged, Ungummed (was never gummed). Bright color and very fresh. Proofs of the M-17 Lions are scarce and sought after.

101 [1917 1 mk Red and Black M-17 Saarinen Lion] "Mirror Print" proof on tissue paper. A spectacular and terribly unusual type of proof. Inter-Pane 8-block with creasing in the gutter (only) as would be expected.

B12-14 [1933 Bishops of Turku / Åbo, Red Cross semi-postals] Ungummed imperforate pairs plate proofs in final issued colors. These proofs are said to have been discovered in the 1970s in the estate of a deceased printer who worked at the stamp printing works. While the Finnish post office and the stamp catalogs claim these are not "proofs", that is, by their very definition of how they were created, exactly what they are even though they were not officially released or intended to be released. (Real production proofs rarely come out through the front door.) Apparently only one sheet of each were discovered; they were subsequently widely distributed to collectors in the 1970s so that they are now quite difficult to obtain.

VF, Ungummed (as always), Never Hinged. These are genuine plate proofs, but were "taken home without authorization" by one of the workers and discovered many years later after the man died. The price works out to only $30/stamp for an item of which only 100 of each stamp exists in private hands!
