Scott #294 [1939 15 öre Carl von Linne (or Linneaus), Coil] F-VF stamp on face of VF real-photo picture post card of a Linne portrait engraving. Canceled at DIÖ -- the birthplace of Linne -- on 30 April 1947. Linne was born 23 May 1707, thus this card may have been prepared in advance of a 240th birth anniversary celebration. While this postmark is not "scarce" according to the Facit Postal (cancellation catalog), I cannot recall previously having an example of a Diö cancellation -- this is a very small place with a current population of only about 900 people. Linne is a very important topical subject for anybody interested in natural history, botany, biology, zoology, taxonomy (the naming and organization) of all plants and animals, etc. Interesting philatelic Linne-related items such as this are extremely unusual, especially items from before the 1970s. This is the only example of this maximum card that I have recorded having in 50 years.

Scott #329 [1942 20 öre red King Gustav (Gustavus) III (1746-1792), from Booklet] VF stamp on face of VF real-photo picture post card of a Gustav III painting portrait. Canceled STOCKHOLM ca.1948. Gustav III had a remarkable history in short reign, starting with his 1772 takeover the Swedish crown in a coup and ending with his assassination in 1792. In the years between he made massive changes to Swedish government, culture, and the arts. One of his many and wide-ranging reforms was to legalize Catholic and Jewish presence in Sweden. His Wikipedia article is very much worth a read. Due to his many accomplishments, Gustav III deserves a place in many types of philatelic topical collections. This is the only example of this maximum card that I have recorded having in 50 years. Swedish maximum cards from this era are scarce.

Scott #382 [1946 20 öre red Alfred Nobel, from Booklet] VF stamp on face of VF picture post card of a Nobel portrait. Canceled STOCKHOLM 28 June 1947. From Wikipedia: "Alfred Bernhard Nobel was a Swedish chemist, engineer, inventor, businessman, and philanthropist. He is known for creating dynamite [and the blasting cap] as well as having bequeathed his fortune to establish the Nobel Prize. He also made several important contributions to science, holding 355 patents in his lifetime." Due to his many accomplishments, Nobel deserves a place in many types of philatelic topical collections, beyond the expected Nobel Prize collections. This is the only the second or third example of this maximum card that I have recorded having in 50 years. Swedish maximum cards from this era are scarce.

Scott #386 [1947 10 öre violet King Gustav V, Coil] XF stamp on face of VF picture post card of a Gustav V portrait, printed in blue. Canceled with the official STOCKHOLM 8 December 1947 FIRST DAY cancellation. I believe that this is the only the second example of this maximum card that I have had in 50 years. This maximum card meets the most pure definition for a "maximum" card: Picture post card design similar to the stamp but not a picture of the stamp and canceled with a first day cancellation of the stamp. Swedish maximum cards from this era are scarce.
