Scott #1, 1885 OFFICIAL REPRINT, Facit #1E4 [1855 3 skilling banco Coat of Arms, 1885 Perforation 13 Official Reprint] Mint, original gum, with Just-Fine centering. I believe that this stamp may actually be NEVER HINGED, but because of the natural gum appearance, it is an uphill battle to prove it is never hinged. Thus I have described this stamp as Mint (i.e. Hinged), even though, based on my experience, I cannot see evidence of a hinge mark. Wonderfully fresh with great color, a crisp printing impression, exceptionally nice perforations, and with correct original gum. The gum on all the 1885 Official Reprints always varies greatly in coverage, as it did on many of the "regular" stamps being printed in the same facility in the 1880s. The gum was applied fairly thickly and allowed to dry with the sheets simply laying face down on shelves, but as the sheets dried they did not remain completely flat. This resulted in the gum flowing slightly from higher areas to lower areas; thus there are often thicker areas of gum, thinner areas of gum, and sometimes areas that have extremely thin gum. This situation can sometimes cause a stamp to look hinged when it may not have been hinged. All five Swedish skilling banco stamps were reprinted twice in 1868, plus an 1871 reprint of the 3 skilling banco; all of those are Perforation 14. All five were again reprinted in 1885 with Perforation 13, each in a quantity of 1620 (180 sheets of 9 reprints). Thus the 1885 reprints, with their different perforation measurement, are easy to identify. All the of skilling banco reprints were officially made, in the same facility that printed stamps, using new cliches that were made from the original matrices which had been used to make the cliches for printing the original stamps. The centering of the 1885 official reprints varies dramatically, with most examples only Average or Fine centered; centering better than Fine is "very scarce". The original skilling banco stamps are "rare" in Unused condition (Mint, without gum) and are "extremely rare" (or unknown in some color shades / printings) Mint with original gum! The official reprints are the only practical way to acquire Mint-with-gum examples representing the first Swedish stamps. 2, 1868 Official Reprint. [1855 4 skilling banco blue Coat of Arms] Mint F-VF centered example, but gum that is either disturbed (probably) or regummed. These are typically found without gum. Lower left corner perforation tooth rounded and two very slightly shorter perforation teeth. This is Type "g" (of the nine types of the 4 sk reprints). There were two reprintings in 1868; they differ only very slightly in appearance and are hard to separate. Between the two printings, a total of 1885 reprints were printed, of those only 209 were Type "g". Assuming the more common of the two 1868 reprintings, the Facit 2020 value is SEK 4000!
