Newspaper Tax Stamps (tidningsstämpel): Newspapers, magazines, almanacs, etc. were subject to taxation and from 1824-1872 revenue handstamps were used to show payment of the tax. Part of the tax was for general revenue and part was reimbursed to the post to cover delivery expenses; thus these markings are both revenue and postage at the same time. In larger publications with many pages, the handstamps may have been applied several times in the publication, depending upon the tax rate. The handstamp types are illustrated in the 1952 Swedish cancellation handbook (which I sometimes have available for sale).
