Collections: United States: First Day Covers
I am constantly buying large and small collections and often have a variety of U.S. and Worldwide collections, lots, and accumulations available. If you are considering getting into a new area and would like a "starter collection" (whether small or large), let me know about your interest. Also, if you are seeking used binders or used empty albums to match what you currently have, again, let me know. Here are a few samples of collections. The listings below are included by happenstance. If you are seeking a particular country or type of material, please let me know. Payment plans are available. I guarantee your satisfaction.

Due to the low prices, variations in weight, and different mailing methods, distances, and destinations, shipping cost is additional for items in the Specials Collections listings unless otherwise mentioned. When ordering please include a note in the shopping cart comments section indicating if you prefer faster/costlier or slower/cheaper delivery so that I may more quickly quote the shipping costs and options for you.

Collections and lots are not normally sent on approval. If you have questions about an item, please inquire before ordering. Special return and refund limitations typically apply to such items. Please see the "Order Info" page for details.

Each item is one of a kind; orders will be filled in order of receipt. Payment by MasterCard or Visa suggested, but I will hold items for 10 days pending receipt of check if you prefer.

U.S. First Day Covers 1979-81 Collection with Encyclopedic Write-Ups: Group of about 48 1979-1981 (only one is from 1979) first day covers of various issues. All are Readers Digest-cacheted and UNaddressed. Mounted on oversize pages in an attractive maroon display binder. For each stamp issue there is an extensive, encyclopedic write-up, usually with high-quality related illustrations. This would be a fabulous resource for a school teacher in a classroom, or for showing your doubting friends that stamp collecting can be really educational. Though the original price was several dollars each, the current market value covers are all at least $1 and several are $2-3 each individually. Whether for yourself, or for a teacher, library, youth or senior center, this is a very interesting and attractive collection. (While the oversize binder is really needed if you want to keep the pages in a binder, I do not have to ship the binder if you do not want it.) Priced at less than 59 cents per cover!

U.S. First Day Covers 1980-82 Collection with Encyclopedic Write-Ups: Group of about 57 1980-1982 first day covers of various issues. For complete accuracy, the extreme edges of some pages have small toning spots, but these could be easily removed by cutting off a 1/8-inch slice and you would never know the difference (except one page wish is fully toned and not counted). Whether for yourself, or for a teacher, library, youth or senior center, this is a very interesting and attractive collection. (While the oversize binder is really needed if you want to keep the pages in a binder, I do not have to ship the binder if you do not want it.) Priced at less than 54 cents per cover!

NEW
United States First Day Cover Collection: 1998-2000, 2003: Gold Foil Replica Cachets: THREE brown leather-like cover albums containing approximately 141 FDCs of various issues, with Postal Commemorative Society gold foil replica stamps as the cachet. The issues are from the years 1998-2000 and then 2003. I do not know if this is complete for the FDCs that were issued; they are what the collector had. I believe that the original purchaser paid around $4-6.00 per cover = about $300!!!! Includes informational card about each stamp issue subject. The covers are typed-addressed as is typical for these. The album is the tall format, three covers high. Where any member of a multi-design set is present, the whole set seems to be present, but I have not done a deep study of the collection. The exteriors of the binders look great. The cover-holding pages are mostly perfect, but a few are soiled (might clean up okay) -- but the covers themselves are mostly perfect. I only noted a couple of covers that showed any quality problems. Overall in excellent condition. I am normally able to sell these for 50-80 cents per cover in groups and depending upon various factors. These I would like to move on as quickly as possible (I am short on storage space) and I want to remove some of the burden of the postage cost, thus the entire collection of all three albums are offered for less than 17.8 cents per cover!!! I have never offered these for such a low price!

U.S. 1982 20-cent Official Birds and Flowers of the Fifty States First Day Covers: PCS Complete Set: Scott # 1953-2002 Complete set of 50 PCS multicolor cacheted, neatly addressed (as usually prepared by PCS) first day covers, with Washington D.C. cancellations, in an attractive cover album. The cachet designs were painted by well-known bird and wildlife artist Chuck Ripper. Very attractive with intrinsic value in the canceled stamps as well. A great gift for the birder and/or gardener in your family. Priced at only a small fraction of the original cost.

2216a-i-2219a-i [1986 U.S. Presidents (Ameripex)] First Day Covers with "HF" Cachets: The complete set of 36 FDCs of the 1986 Presidential Issue (Scott 2216a-2219i) on "HF" (House of Farnum) engraved multi-colored cacheted UNaddressed FDCs. HF cachets are not so often seen, which is a shame, and have a strong following. A major FDC dealer lists this less-common set at a "regular" price of $75 and currently on special at $45. With 36 covers in the set, all in perfect condition, this should be worth much more than my low price.

Elvis Presley First Day Cover Collection: Cachets and Cancellations of the 3 Different U.S. Elvis Stamp Issues: A large collection of ONLY Elvis covers; a 14-inch stack covers -- approximately 650 covers (not counted). The vast majority are FDCs of the three different 1993 Elvis stamps, with a plethora of different cachets and/or cancellations. There are some (less than 10% I would say) that are not FDCs, but have other Elvis-themed cancellations. Though the cachets are not all different (there may be various different FD cancels for the same cachet; likely very low volume items), the overall variety is incredible. These were collected by an avid philatelist and Elvis fan who lived in the Memphis area at the time and he had contacts with local cachet makers, etc. -- some of them are surely very-low-quantity cachets. As a wonderful coincidence, the American First Day Cover Society has just (late 2020) published an Elvis FDC cachets catalog either as a downloaded PDF or as unbound printed pages that can be purchased here. With this collection and that catalog, you will have a huge head start on a terrific collection. Some of these covers are going to be scarce due to various factors, though not necessarily valuable. However, certainly there are covers present up to at least $5 in value, if not more. Priced as a collection at LESS THAN 50-cents per cover, this is a huge bargain. Keep in mind that the stamp itself cost 29 cents and the postage to obtain each one cost either 29 cents or 58 cents! I do not think you will find a better deal. Get him while Elvis IS In The Building!
