3. JAY'S OBSERVATIONS
BACK TO HEALTH: In a recent message I mentioned Jo Ann's and Bonnie's health problems. I am delighted to report that Jo Ann has recovered well from her heart attack, is feeling well, and is back at work. Bonnie has since undergone her scheduled gall bladder removal, is recovering extremely well, and is generally feeling much better. I continue to be amazed at what medical science can do these days. Bonnie was to be at the hospital by 6:30 am for the gall bladder removal. I had her back home by 11 am!
Our experience suggests that, for anybody dealing with health problems or procedures, it makes a great difference to have a family member present at all doctor appointments, meetings, etc. Both the patient and the family member should take great interest, ask questions, and then ask more questions. Both the patient and the family member should read about the procedure or health problem (on the Internet is easiest). Not only is the information gleaned from the reading and by asking questions important, but it communicates to the doctor that the patient and the family are serious about taking an active role in the patient's care. That in turn helps the doctor and may potentially cause the doctor to take more time and care in communicating regarding the patient's condition.

U.S. FLAG "PRESTIGE" BOOKLET: In my opinion, one of the most attractive recent U.S. issues is the Flag booklet showing older versions of the flag and containing several pages of information and pictures. It's appearance is very much like the Submarine booklet that came out a couple years ago. (The Submarine now sells for a huge price!) I have a few examples, both mint and also used that were properly canceled to pay our business reply mail postage due bill. Take a look.
NORTH CAROLINA COVERS: As I have previously mentioned, Bonnie and I collect covers with North Carolina postmarks. The emphasis of the collection is on the postmarks, not necessarily the postal history. We are collecting all time periods, right up to yesterday. We also include picture post cards that show North Carolina post office buildings and pre-cancels from North Carolina. If you have anything that "belongs" in our collection offers are invited.
