18, 19, 27, 2 [1985 5.00 and 8.00 Nature; 1987 1.00 Farsund Bridge, 1984 .20 Sailboat] (VF) on 5 January 1989 domestic REGISTERED cover from "ÅLANDS DEGERBY", from a bank, to a bank in Mariehamn. The cover is marked as weighing 60 grams (SECOND WEIGHT CLASS). The 14.20 franking is correct: the domestic / Norden 3.20 postage rate to 100 grams plus the 11.00 registry fee. That rate was in use only 14 months: 1 January 1989 through 28 February 1990. The cover is typical of bank mail, 9 x 6.5 inches. As usual, the back flap has been taped for security, with a tiny bit of the tape wrapping around to the front (the tape adhesive has darkened, but is not sticky, and does not affect the stamps). The registry label has the village name handwritten on it; many villages had too little mail to justify paying for a rubber stamp to put the name on the label, and certainly to not pay for printed-name labels. Non-philatelic covers, especially registered mail, canceled at smaller villages, are hard to find. Excellent cancellation strike.

14, 54 [1985 2.00 Nature; 1989 14.00 Orchid] (VF) on 12 December 1989 domestic REGISTERED cover from "ÅLANDS DEGERBY", from a bank, to a bank in Mariehamn. The cover is marked as weighing 110 grams (THIRD WEIGHT CLASS: over 100 grams). I have not been able to find any rate charts that go to the third weight class, but I have seen a few other covers from this correspondence that are third weight class and 16.00 franking, thus I assume this to be correct. The next weight increment above 100 grams is usually 250 grams, thus the 5.00 amount for the third weight class seems reasonable. The registry fee is 11.00. Non-philatelic covers, especially registered mail, canceled at smaller villages, are hard to find. The 14.00 Orchids stamp is fairly "scarce" in postally used condition -- removed from the cover, that stamp alone I could sell for $10! Excellent cancellation strike.

44 [1990 2.00 Kumlinge Church Mural] (VF) on 19 November 1990 domestic cover from ÖDKARBY to a Mariehamn newspaper contest. The 2.00 postage rate was in use only one year, 3 March 1990 through 28 February 1991; but this stamp was issued 10 September 1990, thus this single franking was only possible for 172 days. Non-philatelic, small-size covers, canceled at smaller towns, are hard to find. Excellent quality.

Machine slogan postmark "NU KÖRS POSTPAKETEN HEM" (now postal packages are driven home) This postmark use started sometime in 1989 and I believe ended in 1991 or 1992. The 2.00 postage rate was in use only one year, 3 March 1990 through 28 February 1991; but this stamp was issued 10 September 1990, thus this single franking was only possible for 172 days. 18, 21 [1985 5.00 Nature; 1987 12.00 Ducks] (VF) on 17 October 1990 REGISTERED cover from "LAPPOBY ÅLAND", from a bank to a company in Finland. The cover is marked as weighing 18 grams. The 17.00 franking correctly pays the domestic / Norden 2.00 postage rate to 50 grams plus the 15.00 registry fee. This rate was in use only one year: 3 March 1990 through 28 February 1991. The cover is typical of bank mail, 9 x 6.5 inches. The registry label has the village name handwritten on it; many villages had too little mail to justify paying for a rubber stamp to put the name on the label, and certainly to not pay for printed-name labels. The 12.00 Ducks stamp is fairly "scarce" in postally used condition -- removed from the cover, that stamp alone I could sell for $14! Excellent quality with excellent cancellation strike.
