These bargain-priced stamps are attractive, but most have hidden flaws. You can save a tremendous amount of money when you add such stamps to your collection. Each stamp is one of a kind, so please let me know if I may substitute a different example (that looks as good or better, for the same cost) if the stamp you order has sold. If you have any doubts, all are available for approval viewing. If you are seeking stamps of this quality and price level from any of the Scandinavian countries, just send along your want list -- I will be happy to send bargains on approval. Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise stated.
Scott #6a Variety, Facit #6b, AFA #6 Print 2, the THICK FRAME printing [1873 3c light blue and rose Bicolor, Thin Paper, Thick Normal Frame (Printing 2, 1876)] Mint, WITHOUT GUM, with VF-XF centering. A wonderful, fresh-looking example with brilliant colors, "perfect" perforations, and extraordinarily nice centering for this stamp. This example came to me in a very small group of this printing, all without gum; I do not know why there is no gum. However, many early collectors believed that, for the best preservation, it was better to remove the gum from such delicate stamps. Such nice-looking examples of this stamp, and without defects, are quite hard to find because the extremely thin paper was easily damaged. An outstanding example! A Mint Hinged with-full-gum example of this stamp, with this centering, would quickly sell for $160 because such nice centering is "rare".

Scott #7b [1874 4c yellow-brown and ULTRAMARINE Bicolor, Perforation 14 x 13.5] Mint, but WITHOUT GUM, with F-VF++ centering. An exceptionally fresh and bright example, wonderful color, terrific centering for this stamp, and "perfect" perforations. "Very scarce" with such nice perforations. This example shows the tell-tale faint "checkerboard" appearance of the central ultramarine color that further confirms the first printing ultramarine printing. A beautiful example with excellent centering for this stamp and wonderful overall appearance. A very high percentage of the examples of this stamp offered in the market in the last 50 years have been without gum. A Mint original gum, hinged example with this centering would sell quickly at $420.

Scott #7b [1874 4c yellow-brown and ULTRAMARINE Bicolor, Perforation 14 x 13.5] Mint, but expertly REGUMMED (never hinged), with F-VF++ centering. Some perforations appear that they may have been slightly "improved", but the overall stamp size is exactly the same as other stamps of this printing and I am not able to find any evidence of repairs or added paper. For caution, since somebody did go to the trouble of regumming this stamp, I will state that this stamp has potential perforation issues. The previous owner of this stamp thought that it was OG NH, as did the Scandinavian-specialist auction company that had most recently sold it! This example shows the tell-tale faint "checkerboard" appearance of the central ultramarine color that further confirms the first printing ultramarine printing. A beautiful example with excellent centering for this stamp and wonderful overall appearance. A Mint original gum, lightly hinged example with this centering would sell quickly at $420 -- a similar Never Hinged original gum example (yes they do exist) would sell quickly for $1100 -- explaining why somebody regummed this example.

Very fresh with bright color and "perfect" perforations. Print 7 was the only 10 cent printing with all stamps having Inverted Frames; the only other Inverted Frame stamps are from Print 3 which had only a single position with Inverted Frame. 12 [1873 14 cent Bicolor, Normal Frame] Mint with Average-Fine centering (typical for this stamp). Full original gum, slightly glazed, with modest hinge remnant. There is a pulled perforation on the right side, but by way of explanation, note that the corresponding perforation tooth on the left side is oversized (caused by a bent perforating pin), suggesting that the pulled perforation on the right side was the result of a similar oversized tooth on the adjacent stamp on the right. Otherwise, this stamp is without the usual serious defects. While one could hope for better centering, this 14 cent stamp is notoriously difficult to find well centered. The lack of major defects is quite unusual for this stamp printed on extremely thin paper. (The paper of this stamp is always extremely thin and fragile, thus perforation problems or much more severe damage is quite common). Approximately 1000 sheets (100,000 stamps) were printed, but 90,158 stamps were destroyed by the post office in 1883, thus the net quantity that could have existed of the normal frame stamps is approximately 9,645. Of that quantity, many were lost or destroyed over time, especially due to the very thin paper and the fact that these were used either on overseas mail or on internal postal accounting documents (which were mostly destroyed). This is a very reasonable looking and very reasonably priced example of a the "rarest face-different stamp" of the Danish West Indies!

Scott #13 [1879 50 cent violet, Thin Paper (First Printing, 1879)] Used with Just-Fine centering and typical St. Thomas cancellations. The 50 cent stamps, with very thin paper, were mostly used on heavy or registered envelopes and packages, thus they were easily damaged in use. This stamp has fewer defects than most: two perforation teeth at the bottom have been repaired, but that is it. An undamaged example of this centering would sell for $215 -- it is a very scarce stamp that is missing from many collections. This is a reasonable example at a very low price!

Scott #13a, Facit #13b, AFA #13 Print 2 [1879 (1885 printing) 50 cent GRAY VIOLET, "thicker" paper, "Bicolor", Perf 14 x 13.5] Mint, with only PARTIAL GUM, with Fine centering. A very fresh looking example with "perfect" perforations for this issue and excellent, correct color -- just missing most of its gum. [Some have suggested that intentionally removing the gum may help to preserve the stamp. However, this example looks like it was partially stuck to something and expertly lifted off.] The Facit 2024 value is SEK 3000, but perfect examples are very hard to find! A very scarce stamp that is seldom offered, but when Scott #13a is offered in the general marketplace, it is often misidentified and is really a faded example of #13. This example is a correct Scott #13a and is priced very attractively for its condition. An example with this centering, but having fully Hinged gum, would sell for $180.

However, there are NO other faults (such as creases, thins, tears, etc.). This stamp is usually found with quality problem due to the extremely thin paper. The postmark is a light, but proper ST.
