1882 "UPU Arms" design, 5 øre in black on smooth, thin yellowish-white paper, with small corner numerals but of a different shape and with completely different design for the corner ornaments. Listed by AFA Specialized as essay E32Bb. Imperforate, ungummed, die impression with very large margins. This is a precursor to the first "UPU Arms" stamps with the small corner numerals. Very scarce; probably less than 20 example exist, maybe less than 10. Accompanied by 2010 Lasse Nielsen photo certificate. ACTUAL item. |

ESSAYS: Set of two ca.1912 Alfred Jacobsen color prints of the 1902 Harald Slott-Møller essays for new 5 øre Danish definitive stamps. Printed by Jacobsen only in Carmine and in Dark Ultramarine on white, coated paper, without watermark or gum. Listed by Benfield and Nørdam in Volume 1, on pages 271-272 (2016 edition), with catalog numbers: Red "{[*1902C-E(03a)]-WPP(1b)}-R(13a)" and "Blue" (Dark Ultramarine) "{[*1902C-E(03a)]-WPP(1b)}-R(13b)" (with author apologies for the strange numbering because they are "reprints of a working plate proof of an essay"). To the best of my knowledge, Benfield and Nørdam are the only authors to have properly shown the origin of this set of essays, but in a handbook that has had extremely little distribution. This set is quite scarce; I believe I have only previously had one other set in 50 years. NH Superb examples. ACTUAL item. |
