Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise indicated. Rough perforations are to be expected on all North Ingermanland stamps and are not a defect. All items are available for viewing on approval. I am also interested in buying most North Ingermanland stamps.
Only the second North Ingermanland issue (pictorial designs) has been heavily forged. (Credible forgeries of the first issue have not been reported.) The genuine stamps are usually easily identifiable. I only sell North Ingermanland stamps and covers that have been properly examined. I do not consider it necessary that collectors incur the cost of certificates for these issues, if they are purchased from a knowledgable specialist. However, in my experience, a large proportion of the 1922 (Second) Issue stamps offered by non-specialists or through general auctions and especially Internet auctions, are not genuine. Caution is advised.

North Ingermanland: Scott #5 [1920 1 mk Coat of Arms] Mint hinged, with F-VF centering. This example has an unusual (scarcer) Light Red color with an unusually crisp impression. Despite only 10,000 stamps (one hundred sheets) being printed, the color can vary from dark red to light red. My theory, because the Light Red stamps seem to have a cleaner, crisper printing impression, from what would seem to be a freshly cleaned plate, is that the first-printed stamps had lighter color. Either the color was then intentionally darkened after a small group of sheets were printed or the ink naturally darkened as a tiny amount of black / dark inks, from inadequately cleaned ink rollers from previous print jobs, mixed with the light red ink. Very attractive appearance with delicate color and "perfect" perforations. Hard to obtain; missing from most collections.

North Ingermanland: Scott #6 [1920 5 mk Coat of Arms] Mint Hinged with XF centering, but with a couple of blunted perforation teeth and a pre-printing paper fold. While the pre-printing paper fold might be considered a defect by some, it would be considered a production variety by others. Pre-printing paper folds are occasionally found on the first North Ingermanland stamp issue, but they are uncommon. On this example, the pre-printing paper fold is very hard to see from the front (a 10x magnifier might be required) but it can be seen on the reverse. A pre-printing paper fold (instead of a crease which happens sometime later) is detected by a tiny gap in the printing ink. This is an attractive example of a very scarce stamp -- only 3000 were printed and many of those were used. Without the pre-printing paper fold, this centering would be $240!
