Norway: Stamps: Official Stamps Scott #O1-O8

The full Norway Stamps section is developing one chunk at a time. However, I do have a very comprehensive stock of NH, Mint Hinged, and Used Norwegian stamps and would be happy to send stamps on approval from your want list, using your choice of Scott (which I prefer unless for varieties listed by Facit or NK), Facit, or NK numbers.

The images of most unused stamps shown in this section are standard (representative) images from my image library unless they are labeled as being the "ACTUAL item". The standard images are presented to show the designs of the stamp issues, not to show the specific individual stamps being offered. The centering of the stamps in the standard images is usually Superb or XF or VF quality; again the standard (representative) images are not images of the actual stamps being offered. For centering / quality information, please refer to the item description. Most early stamps had multiple printings, thus color shades can vary; the colors in the standard images are usually the most often seen printings/colors. On the other hand, the images of canceled stamps normally of the actual item being offered. Below each image is text stating if the image is the "ACTUAL item" or a "REPRESENTATIVE image of stamp design".

Scott #O5 [1926 30 øre Official First Issue] PLATE VARIETY: "Bottom inner frame split (and repaired?) below Ø of ØRE". Used with XF centering and very light cancellation. The previous owner, who was a very advanced lifetime Scandinavian specialist, marked in his album that this was "Retouch #59" (assuming plate position 59). His description suggests that there was even greater plate damage and this was the repaired state. I have never before seen this reference and I have never before seen an example of this variety -- thus it is certainly not a common position/variety. Quite a dramatic variety; I am surprised it is not listed in any of the specialized catalogs that I have seen. This category of variety is usually very highly valued on Norwegian stamps.

Scott #O6 Ultramarine [1926 40 øre Official First Issue] PLATE VARIETY: "Right third of top frame line much thinner". Used with XF centering and very light cancellation. The previous owner, who was a very advanced lifetime Scandinavian specialist, marked in his album that this was "FT5" (perhaps frame type 5??), but I have never before seen this reference and I have never before seen an example of this variety -- thus it is certainly not a common position/variety. Quite a dramatic variety; I am surprised it is not listed in any of the specialized catalogs that I have seen.

Scott #O7 [1926 60 øre Official First Issue] PLATE VARIETY: "White spot above S". Used with VF centering and very light cancellation. The previous owner, who was a very advanced lifetime Scandinavian specialist, marked in his album that he did not know the plate position of this variety. I have never before seen this variety or any listings for it. A normal Used VF example would be $7.50.

Scott #O8 Lilac [1926 2 on 5 øre Surcharged Official First Issue] NEVER HINGED with F-VF centering, but with a crease. MAJOR PLATE VARIETY: "Top line of final E of ERKE continues into unprinted area inside the frameline." On normal stamps, the top of the final E is surrounded by color. However, in the variety, there is no color at the right end of the top line of the E. My recollection is that this variety was listed and documented in earlier editions of Norgeskatalogen, but somewhere along the line, the listing disappeared. This is a SCARCE and well-known variety that should be listed in the specialized catalogs! It is very rarely offered which suggests that the printers may have discovered the problem and repaired the plate at some point. It has probably been 20 years since I was last able to offer an example!
