SEEKING INVESTORS IN JAY SMITH & ASSOCIATES -- SOMETHING DIFFERENT
We are seeking investors to join with us in continuing to grow Jay Smith & Associates.
This November will be our 50th year in business and one thing I can say is that the business of stamps is always changing and developing. I can also say that I am still enjoying being in the business of philately and I look forward to coming to work every day. (Keep in mind that I started in this business when I was 15 years old, so I am still a "youngster" in comparison to many stamp dealers.)
At this time, we are seeking investors investors for a specific purpose that is slightly different than our usual financial needs. (Usually we are seeking long-term investors to whom we start paying monthly principal payments after an agreed-upon number of years.)
This time, we are seeking investors who will start to receive monthly repayments just SIX MONTHS after investing. (Longer investment terms are available if the investor desires, but our primary goal at this time is to arrange shorter term investments.)
There has been a lot of change in the stamp world over the last few years and as a result, we are being offered more stamp collections than ever. Recently we have been offered a number of larger collections that require larger cash outlays. To help out collectors (or their families) that are selling stamp collections, we would like to have more cash available to quickly consummate purchases.
Here is how it works:
- The form of investment is a loan which will be repaid in monthly payments. Only our clients are eligible to participate because we feel it is important that one should only invest in areas about which one has some knowledge.
- The minimum investment amount is $4,000. (The minimum amount is a little larger than our usual minimum because the purpose is more short-term and for specific-situations.) There really is no maximum amount; at this time we could make excellent use of a grand total up to $50,000. However, most past investors have chosen amounts in the $5,000 to $20,000 range.
- Monthly repayments would start very quickly, after only 6 months. This is a long enough time to allow the invested funds to start to do their work but soon enough that the investor quickly starts to receive their principal back. (Again, a longer period of time before repayment starts is possible if the investor prefers.
- The amount of the monthly repayments of principal would be 4% of the invested amount (rounded to a convenient dollar amount). That would result in 25 monthly payments. With the addition of the first six months before repayments start, the final repayment would be completed in 31 months after the investment, just one month more than two and a half years.
- During the first 6 months before principal repayments start, interest-only would be paid quarterly (thus two interest payments) before monthly principal & interest payments start in the 7th month.
- After 6 months, interest would be paid monthly in addition to the repayment of principal. Interest would be calculated and paid monthly on the declining principal balance, thus the monthly interest amounts would be much higher in the first months and much lower in the final months.
- The interest rate varies depending upon the amount invested. (I can pay a higher rate of interest on larger amounts because there is less bookkeeping work to be done, per dollar invested.) If the investor prefers, the option is available to receive a higher rate of interest that is paid in merchandise credit.
Here are some interest rate examples as a guide. Other invested amounts will receive interest rates similar to these examples -- inquire about specific rates for specific other invested amounts, or if a long-term investment is preferred.

NOTE: This information is for short-term investments. Elsewhere on our website, there is different investment information for long-term investments. The terms and interest rates described on this page are for much shorter-term investments.
I am usually able to customize the investment terms to suit the needs and preferences of each investor. If you are seeking a different kind of arrangement, don't hesitate to let me know of your preferences.
If you are considering this possibility, please see the general investor information on our website. Some of the specific details on the website describes longer-term investments, not the short-term investments I have described here. However, much of the background information on the website is relevant to what I have described here.
https://www.JaySmith.com/investment.html
If you wish to pursue this possibility, let me know the amount you are considering investing and whether you prefer the interest to be paid by check or the interest to be paid in merchandise credit. (For larger invested amounts, it is possible for the interest payment -- and thus rate -- to be a combination of check and merchandise credit.) I will then reply to you with a confirmation of the interest rate and a draft of the complete agreement for your review. The information presented here is only a summary. The complete agreement has been developed over many years with the suggestions from and to meet the needs of our client-investors.
You may ask yourself why Jay does not just borrow money from a bank. We could do that and we have done that many times; since 1989 we have had an excellent relationship with our current bank. However, given the choice of dealing with a bank (which is not the same experience as it was back in the "good old days") and paying interest to a bank VS working with our clients and paying interest to our clients, I would much rather work with our clients. After all, we have only been successful because of our clients! We have had many client-investor relationships going back to the mid-1970s.
If you have questions and/or you would like to discuss the possibilities, please first read this web page with more information for investors and then give me a call at 336-376-9991 or send me an email.
I look forward to working with you as we continue to grow!
