Scott #579 [1923 2c carmine Washington, COIL WASTE, Perf 11 x 10] Top Margin (the only possible position) PLATE BLOCK OF FOUR plus two stamps on the right, Plate # (star) 14289, which confirms that it is Scott #579 coil waste (end pieces of rotary press web perforated into sheets instead of made into coil rolls). The stamp adjacent to the plate number has a hard-to-see crease through the extreme upper right corner. Mint hinged, but upper left and lower right stamps are NH; of the four hinged stamps one has remnant but the other three are lightly hinged. The top left corner of the selvage is slightly shortened as is often the case. The top margin is always this size because it is the edge of the paper/web. Centering is Average-Fine and is typical for this issue, however, but that gives the added benefit of showing the ENTIRE JOIN LINE on the left side of the plate block. The Scott definition of a plate block of this issue is only four stamps, but I have left this as a six-block because it looks nice (the "extra" stamps at right are: upper LH [Scott 2024 $70] and lower NH [Scott 2024 $140]). [Scott 2024 value for the hinged plate block OF FOUR is $550; those four single stamps (one of which is NH) have a Scott 2024 value of $350; the additional two stamps on the right (one of which is NH) add another $210 of Scott value.] If you only want the plate block OF FOUR, it may be possible for me to remove the right two stamps and offer the plate-4-block at a slightly lower price. Wonderfully fresh and attractive with large margins. There were only six plate numbers for the issued-imperforate #611, two of which are quite rare. Thin on center-left stamp and small sealed hole at top of bottom left stamp. Slight scuffing in margin. VF / F-VF centering and reasonable appearance. While this example is somewhat of a "filler" it looks nice and is priced very low. [Scott 2024 value for hinged plate block $60.] ACTUAL item. |

There is a tiny amount of creasing around the area of the arrow in the top selvage and the first few perfs are separated below that. Scott #629 [1926 2c carmine rose White Plains normal sheet issue] Left Margin PLATE BLOCK OF SIX #18766. This plate number was used for the full sheets (not on the #630 souvenir sheet). Mint hinged on top two stamps only (remnant) and NH on the four lower stamps. Wonderful VF-XF centering for a plate block of this issue! Certainly one of the nicest looking plate blocks I have had of this issue in 50 years. [Scott 2024 value for Hinged plate block with normal centering is $35; this is nicer.] ACTUAL item. |

Scott #631 [1926 1-1/2c Yellow Brown Imperforate Harding] Lower Right PLATE BLOCK OF FOUR #18413 (prime number) with the expected prominent gum breaker ridges (also exists as a variety without the ridges). Has scuffs on face at the peaks of the ridges (which is not desirable, but is somewhat typical). Mint, with slight gum disturbance, but not hinged. XF centering and even includes part of stamps to the left and a sliver of stamps above. Only two plate numbers were used for this issue. A reasonable-looking example at a low price.
