Official Year Books are handsome hardbound books that contain the stamps issued during the year as well as dozens of wonderful photographs, illustrations, and interesting and informative text (including English) about the stamp issues and the country. The Canadian post office calls them "Annual Collections". Canadian Official Year Packs/Folders were first issued in 1972. From 1986-1989 both the Year Packs/Folders and hardbound Year Books were issued. From 1990 onward the Annual Collections have only been issued as hardbound Year Books. These and other types of folders and packs are listed in the Unitrade Canadian Specialized Catalog.
The year books are meant as a philatelic showcase for the country and are thus of the highest quality. Though most people collect the year books as year books, they are also a great way to get the stamps of the year and enjoy the wonderful photographs and text. They also make a great gift for anybody with a special attraction to the country.
