The land area of what was Cyrenaica (usually Cirenaica on the stamps) is approximately the eastern half of what is now Libya. As an Italian colonial territory 1911-1934, it first issued stamps in 1923. In 1950 as an autonomous region, one more set of stamps was issued. Many of the earlier Cyrenaica stamps are overprints on Italian stamps. Those Italian stamps were often poorly centered, thus the Cyrenaica stamps are often found with poor centering. Values of Cyrenaica stamps require a somewhat lower centering standard and many Cyrenaica stamps command significant premiums if well-centered. Of particular note is Scott #B7-12 for which the "normal" centering is only Fine, with perforations cutting the design on at least one side and usually two sides.
