Denmark: Bargains: Scott #11-15
These bargain-priced stamps are attractive, but many have described hidden flaws. You can save a tremendous amount of money when you add such stamps to your collection. Each stamp is one of a kind, so please let me know if I may substitute a different example (that looks as good or better, for the same cost) if the stamp you order has sold. If you have any doubts, all are available for approval viewing. If you are seeking stamps of this quality and price level from any of the Scandinavian countries, just send along your want list -- I will be happy to send bargains on approval. Scott numbers have been used unless otherwise stated.

11b [1870 2 skilling Crown and Scepter, Line Perforation 12.5] Mint with VF centering, and original gum. Tiny (you need a 10x magnifying glass) tear in top margin, well away from the design. The stamp has the rough perforations typical of the Line Perf issues; it is actually nicer than usual. Accompanied by a Lasse Nielsen "opinion" (i.e. no image) certificate stating that the stamp is "Mint with original gum, hinged. Genuine without repairs. Small tear in the upper margin. Acceptable copy". This example is an unusually narrow stamp; because the line perforation was done with successive strikes of the perforation tool, wider and narrower examples can result, but this one is remarkably narrow. Though the gum is original, it is somewhat disturbed; considering that this issue is often found without gum, it is still nice. Remarkably bright color and very nice overall appearance. Otherwise would be around $400 if not for the hidden tear. Very pretty.

11b [1870 2 skilling Crown and Scepter, Line Perf 12.5] Mint with F-VF centering, but without gum and with thin. Typical (for the line perf issues) rough or blunted perfs at top and bottom. Bright color and very nice overall appearance. Otherwise would be $380 for mint with gum and with this centering.

12 [1864 3 skilling Sword and Scepter] two stamps (separated pair) Used VF appearing on small piece with wonderful #53 RANDERS duplex numeral cancellation. The stamps both have small faults, but they look great. Used VF stamps sell for $90 each!

12b [1870 3 sk Arms Line Perforation 12.5] Used VF centered example with neat numeral cancellation, better-than-usual perforations, and strong color. However is creased, but that is not visible from the front. The Line Perf 12.5 stamps are scarce; the AFA 2010 catalog value is DKK 6000 = $1100 [10/2010] for normal quality! Very attractive and very reasonably priced.

14 Mint with F-VF centering, but thinned, a couple short perfs, and overall gum-soak staining. AFA 2007 value DKK 3000 = $510. Not very attractive, but offered for a tiny fraction of catalog value.

14b [1870 8 skilling Crown and Scepter, Line Perf 12.5] Used F-VF, but with large cut in right side. Neat, light cancellation. One normal, two large, and one huge margin -- an oversized stamp. Unusually nice perforations (if not for the cut). This very scarce stamp would otherwise be $585, but is a very low-priced space filler that looks okay.
