Rare essay for the 1916 semi-postal issues. Imperforate, roughly printed, 50 öre Carmine Ring Type stamp with a rough "proof" impression of the 10 + NITTIO surcharge that was eventually used for Scott #B21 (Facit #124) on the 1 krone postage due. While I do not know the specific origin of this example, I have previously had a variety (each unique) of interesting and unusual items from the estate of the overprint designer Hjortzberg. In this case, an underlying stamp design from the first Landstorm semi-postal issue was used in combination with the overprint design used for the second Landstorm issue. (Keep in mind that the underlying first issue stamps were specially printed for the purpose; they were not normally overprinted on the original Ring Type stamps.) Certainly rare, and perhaps unique. NH VF.

Finnish "(F)RÅN UTLANDET" ca.1895 incoming ship mail cancellation Superb strike on pair of Sweden Scott #58 [10 öre engraved Oscar] (tiny thin spot). This large cancellation is rarely seen so complete on off-piece stamps and especially not this nice.

1949 March 4 souvenir card of "Nordiska Postkonferensen i Stockholm" (Nordic Postal Congress in Stockholm; the precursor to the current "Norden" organization which is also considered a forerunner to Europa) Middag (mid day meal) luncheon menu. Franked with Sweden Scott #66 [1903 5 kr Stockholm Post Office] and #C8c [1942 20 kr Swans airmail, Perf 4-sides] canceled 4 March 1949. The card lists the delegates: the top executives of the Nordic post offices and airlines. The card was officially printed by the Swedish post offices. This example is the only one I have seen or recorded in 33 years. A rare item; probably few more than 37 (the number of delegates) originally existed -- perhaps less than 5 may still exist today and most of those may be in postal archives.
Stockholmia 1974 souvenir card with five Swedish test stamps (provfrimärken) affixed, one from each of five stamp engravers: "Womans head, Miranda from The Tempest by Shakespeare" coil stamp in green, engraved by Sven Ewert; "Uppsala Cathedral" coil stamp in blue, by Czeslaw Slania; "Snurra" (rotating design) multi-colored coil stamp by Majvor Franzén; "Head with Background (geometric shapes)" coil stamp in magenta by Albert Jorpes; and "The Drottningholm Theater" coil stamp in brown by Zlatko Jakus. All five stamps are on various types of fluorescent paper. All five stamps, as coil versions, were only released to the public on this souvenir card; these coil versions are different stamps than other-format stamps sometimes seen. This card exists on greenish gray whitish fluorescent or brownish gray non-fluorescent stock. Versions of this souvenir card exist with the Miranda stamp in either blue or green; this version bears the GREEN MIRANDA stamp and is GREENISH GRAY WHITISH FLUORESCENT CARD STOCK.

1943 NH VF single "HJÄLP NORDENS BARN" (Help Nordic Children) WWII-era charity seal, officially issued, with the royal monogram, by the government telegraph department promoting the use of telegraph form Lx85. The fee for that telegraph form (which could be specified by the sender of the telegram) included a small amount of money that was directed to this charitable purpose. This officially issued charity seal is thus somewhat similar to semi-postal stamps. This seal is seldom offered, especially in such nice quality. [Beautifully illustrated telegraph forms are also in stock and available on approval.]

Tobacco revenue: cigarette control stamp (kontroll stämpel) in Dark Grayish Blue on white paper. Date unknown to me, but the design looks like it might be from the 1970s. Always found with stain strips from the adhesive and with small defects. Not often offered.

1918-19 Ration coupons, cards, etc. Group of about 20 (twenty!) items, mostly different products, types, colors, etc., etc., most or all from the Stockholm area. Includes milk, sugar, coffee, bread, potatoes, and more. Mostly used with only card headers or with a few tickets remaining. Not postal in any way, but a very interesting highlight to add to a WWI-era postal history collection. Seldom seen! The image shows only part of the group.

1941 Forbidden ("förbjuden") censored Mint photographic picture post card montage picturing bridges, locks, dams, and power station in the Trollhättan area. In the WWII era, the Swedish Defense Department censored picture post cards (as was the case in most countries, but it is not well known). Vital potential strategic targets (especially bombing targets) were not allowed, especially subjects such as dams, bridges, locks, industrial and power facilities, railway yards, etc. In the examples I have seen, a blue handstamp including the text "tillåten" was applied to "allowed" cards and a red handstamp including the text "förbjuden" was applied to "forbidden" cards; forbidden cards seem to be quite unusual (most publishers were wiser than to try to submit them). These markings were probably only applied to proofs submitted by the card publishers and thus are probably unique for each card. Closely related to postal censorship and a little known aspect of postal history.

1987 Circus souvenir sheet issue. Scott #1654-6. Imperforate pane consisting of three souvenir sheet designs with progressive colors: full color, red and engraved blue only, and engraved blue only. Very attractive and scarce. Issued tipped into presentation folder at top edge. Slania engraved issue. A couple inconseqential, tiny marks on the folder -- but the imperforate pane is perfect as issued. Normally $75!

50 öre Documentary Revenue stamps x2 used on 1949 official court notice -- a post card mailed from BOLLNÄS with Scott #302A -- probably a notice (summons?) of a hearing date. Official notices, like other legal documents, required revenue stamps. When on mailed post cards, the stamps were usually placed on the address side due to lack of space. This makes for a very dramatic appearance in combination with postage stamps. Such items are rarely offered!
