1.  New Items on the Website Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

The new annual AFA catalogs have arrived from Denmark. See below.

A new Slania page has been added to the website: Slania-Engraved Monaco stamps on postally used covers. Whether or not for the Slania stamps, these covers are scarce and many include scarcer thematic / topical postmarks covering a huge range of subjects. Again, all are postally used!

In addition to the full Iceland stamp price list on the website, I have now added hundreds of one-of-a-kind stamps in the Gallery and Bargains sections. You can see those stamps in those sections, or you can view them directly in amongst the listings of the full Iceland stamp price list.

Iceland Gallery - Select Stamps: (18 pages of particularly nice and/or scarce stamps, almost all in VF+ or Superb quality.)

Iceland Bargains: 18 pages of nice looking stamps, but some with hidden defects (fully described, of course) and thus at very low prices.
2.  New Printed and PDF Price Lists Now Available Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

In case you missed it last time, completely updated and revised versions of printed price list sent by postal mail or downloadable PDF price lists are now available.

My downloadable and printed/mailed price lists have been newly updated to reflect the many new additions to the website, including the complete "regular" stamp price lists for Åland, Danish West Indies, Denmark, Faroe, Greenland, and Iceland.

Five separate updated lists are available:
   Scandinavian Stamps
   Scandinavian Specialized
   Slania-Engraved & Greta Garbo
   United States & Worldwide
United States Only (same as the U.S. listings in the U.S. and Worldwide price lists)

These lists ONLY include items that are listed on the website. (Not included are those pages that do not yet have "shopping cart ability" and the Specials Collections & Used Literature [printed lists of Specials Collections & Used Literature sections are available separately by request; they change very frequently -- it is best to check the listings on the website].)

The easiest and fastest way to get these price lists, or the most recent philatelic literature price list, is to download them as PDF files.

Alternatively, you can obtain them as printed copies by postal mail, however, there is a limit on how many times I can send such mailings without receiving an order in return. For overseas mailings, due to the high postage costs, there is a charge for the lists (but a credit memo is supplied in return). For complete information and to email your request to get the lists, go: HERE.

This is the annual, color catalog. It is detailed and includes many specialized varieties and types of items, but it is not "the Specialized" catalog which is only issued every few years. Includes a very handy index-by-type that really helps to quickly find the catalog numbers of those frustrating definitive (regular issue) stamps.

#1444  $49.95, plus shipping.
Order here.

The pictures show the front cover; a sample early page with clear illustrations of important varieties; a page of modern issues; a page from the index-by-type which helps to very quickly find the catalog number of definitive issues which are spread over many years; a page showing listings of booklet panes.

AFA DENMARK 4-BLOCK 2008 CATALOG This unusual catalog lists and prices mint and used 4-blocks of all Danish stamps (you will be amazed at some of the prices of earlier items). It also lists the Danish L-number plate blocks & sheets and the Danish advertising panes. In Faroe & Greenland it lists mint and used blocks, plate blocks, and sheets. Very useful!

#13188  $20.75, plus shipping.
Order here.

The pictures show the front cover; and the page that illustrates the different L-plate-number block types and starts those listings.

This catalog is not well known outside of Denmark, but it is handy, covers all the Scandinavian countries, and is usually necessary if you are communicating about non-Danish Scandinavian stamps with somebody in Denmark. As a bonus, it lists Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

#1516  $47.95, plus shipping.
Order here.

The pictures show the front cover and a sample stamp listing page.

Note: Every catalog in the world uses a different numbering system. The only stamp albums of which I am aware that print numbers in the spaces is Scott. Scott, Facit, AFA, etc., all use different number schemes.
4.  New Website Special: Slania, the Master of Stamp Engraving Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

Complete information, more pictures, and ordering...
Most people who have been involved with Scandinavian (or Polish) philately for any length of time need no introduction to the stamp engraving of Czeslaw Slania. To say that Slania was a "master" of his art is an understatement. He set the standard for his time and by doing so raised the level of work of many stamp engravers. This in turn has brought many people into stamp collecting and particularly into collecting beautifully engraved Scandinavian stamps.

In 2000 Slania completed his 1000th "stamp" engraving. While this number seems like a lot, it only represents one part of Slania's prolific output. It must be remembered that each engraving can take weeks or even months, so 1000 is a lot of time. Furthermore, this quantity does not include the many "special" stamps (such as test stamps, revenue stamps, postal savings stamps, etc.) Slania engraved, nor does it include his work on banknotes of many countries or his many private works including stamp-sized labels and larger engraved artwork. When you "do the math", 1000 regular stamps becomes a huge achievement and a total record that may never be surpassed.

To celebrate the occasion of Slania's 1000th "stamp" engraving Sweden issued what may be (so I have been told) the world's largest stamp. Contained in a souvenir sheet, it has to be seen to be believed. Furthermore, a special, official pack was offered; it includes the NH VF souvenir sheet, the official FDC, and an official blackprint that was only available in the pack. The blackprint shows only the engraved portions of the design and really lets you see the detail of the engraving. The pack itself pictures Slania and provides related information.

For a short time, I am able to offer a limited quantity of the pack, including the blackprint at a special price of only $48.00.

5.  Special Offers: Collections & Albums -- Great Buys Shopping Cart: Review or Check Out   Top

I am constantly buying large and small Scandinavian, U.S., and Worldwide collections. If you are considering getting into a new area and would like a "starter collection" (whether small or large), let me know about your interest. Also, if you are seeking used binders or used empty albums to match what you currently have, again, let me know. In the process of buying Scandinavian collections, many of my long-time clients (or their estates) ask that I assist in selling the non-Scandinavian portion of their collections. If there is something you are looking for, just let me know. Take a look at the current listings on the web site (but if you don't see your interest listed, please inquire -- most have not been listed on the web site yet).

I guarantee your satisfaction. Each item is one of a kind; orders will be filled in order of receipt. Payment by MasterCard or Visa suggested, but I will hold items for 10 days pending receipt of your check or money order if you prefer.

Most of these books are one-of-a-kind, thus be sure to order early. This is just a tiny glimpse of the used books available. Please take a look at the complete Literature Specials price list -- it has much more to offer. I welcome your want list for any Scandinavian books you are seeking. "New" books will be in brand-new condition. "Used" books will be used, though in attractive and serviceable condition; these books may contain minor owner's marks and have typical wear, but any significant defects will be noted in the description. Most "used" books are in much better condition than you might think; many are pristine.
