Denmark: Locals: Kolding

Danish local post stamps are best cataloged by (and is the primary numbering I use in these listings) Christensen and Ringström (1974) which is in stock. The Daka Local Post Catalog (1996) is also sometimes used with numbers in [brackets]. The Daka catalog is also in stock. While the pricing is now obsolete in both books, they are both still very useful for understanding relative values.

Condition standards for locals are not the same as for regular stamps. In certain issues minor defects are the norm. Defects that affect the value or appearance of the stamps will be mentioned. As always, all items are guaranteed, as is your satisfaction.

I have an extensive stock, including parts of the Ringstrom collection and stock, of mint and used locals, available via approvals. Tell me about your interests.

The Kolding local post was established in 1886 and ceased operation 30 April 1900. Stamps were issued in the years 1887-1889 and were regularly, genuinely used, though covers are very rare. The 1880 population of the town was 7141. Kolding locals are much less often found in general groups of Danish locals. Mint examples of Kolding local post stamps are usually found without gum. Examples with gum are scarce and sell for higher prices.

Facial scrape on top center stamp; small thins on both center stamps -- stamps on left and right are excellent. This is the only mutliple of Kolding #1 that I have had in 46 years; it is from the Ringström collection.

Kolding CR #3 [1888 3 øre rose Castle] Mint Fine without gum as typical. Lower right corner margin horizontal 8-BLOCK WITH "C. Ferslew..." PRINTER IMPRINT in right margin. The printer of the 1887 stamps was not known to CR, however the 1888 stamps were printed by Ferslew and the 1889 stamp was printed by a local printer in Kolding. This is only the second Kolding item that I have had bearing the printer imprint. An outstanding and important position piece.

Kolding CR #3 [1888 3 øre rose Castle] Red color shade, seldom offered. USED VF with neat violet cancellation, on small piece. The cancellation appears to extremely faintly tie the stamp to the piece, but the tie is so faint that I am not able to guarantee it. If this is tied to the piece, it is the only Kolding local post stamp I have ever had in 46 years on piece (or on anything). CR cancel #2: not in oval, with curved Kolding and small K (2.5 - 3 mm). The middle scarcity of the four known Kolding cancellations. A very nice item!

Imperforates are scarce and Kolding stamps with gum are scarce -- In 46 years, I have never seen this imperforate stamp with gum. This DARK GREEN color is quite exceptional -- it is the only example of this stamp, perforated or imperforate that I have seen in this dark color.
