Danish local post stamps are best cataloged by (and is the primary numbering I use in these listings) Christensen and Ringström (1974) which is in stock. The Daka Local Post Catalog (1996) is also sometimes used with numbers in [brackets]. The Daka catalog is also in stock. While the pricing is now obsolete in both books, they are both still very useful for understanding relative values.
Condition standards for locals are not the same as for regular stamps. In certain issues minor defects are the norm. Defects that affect the value or appearance of the stamps will be mentioned. As always, all items are guaranteed, as is your satisfaction.
I have an extensive stock, including parts of the Ringstrom collection and stock, of mint and used locals, available via approvals. Tell me about your interests.
Christensen & Ringstrom [CR] 1974 numbers have been used, with some reference to Daka 1996 [Daka] numbers if so noted. Where there is conflict between the CR and Daka listings, and/or where I have identified additional variations, I have assigned JSA numbers. I am not aware of any more recent, comprehensive cataloging of Odense locals post stamps.
CR states that the Odense local post opened 1 February 1884 and lists the first stamps on that date; Daka states the local post opened 1 February 1885. I do not know for sure which is correct, but Daka generally has many more typographical errors. The local post was very active, closing on 2 June 1891.
Mint examples of Odense locals are often found without gum. Some Odense locals with gum are scarce and sell for higher prices.
C&R recorded only two types of cancellations: 1) Two-ring local post canceler in violet and 2) single-ring Danish post office canceler in black.
CR #1-4: 1884 February 1, Numerals with Solid Background, Perforation 12.5, White Paper. CR #1-2 are small size stamps for letters. #3-4 are large size stamps for parcels.

Odense CR #2 on Brownish Paper [1884 5 øre brown, Numeral with solid background, Small-Format Letter Stamp, Perforation 12.5] Used with F-VF centering, but has a couple of pulled perforations at top. This example on Brownish Paper contradicts both the CR and Daka listings: CR states #1-2 are on White Paper, while Daka does not mention the paper color on those two stamps. However, both CR and Daka state that the Large-Format 5 øre Parcel Stamp (CR #3) exists on White Paper, Brownish Paper, and Grayish Paper. Thus it seems reasonably possible that this CR #2 Small-Format Letter Stamp should exist on the same Brownish Paper. Correct violet 2-ring local post cancellation. This example is STILL ON PAPER (thus makes the perfs at top and left look irregular). Keep in mind that NO covers bearing this stamp have been recorded to exist, in the published catalogs (CR or Daka) of which I am aware. (Almost all Danish locals are very rare, or not recorded, on cover.) Thus an obviously correctly canceled example of this stamp with envelope paper still on the reverse is likely a "rarity". Furthermore, the Brownish Paper is a previously-unrecorded (in the literature of which I am aware) paper type for this stamp, potentially making it much "scarcer".

CR #5-7: 1884 February 1 (?), Numerals, Solid Background, Perforation 11.5. CR #5 is a small size stamp for letters. #6-7 are large size stamps for parcels.
CR #8: 1885 November 1, 3 øre Blue, Numeral with Lined Background, Perforation 12, White Paper. Printed in sheets of 100 with 10 horizontal tete-beche pairs in the two central columns (thus perhaps printed with a plate of 50 subjects using the print-and-rotate method).

Odense CR #8 [1885 3 øre blue, Numeral with lined background, Small-Format Letter Stamp, Perforation 12] RIGHT MARGIN BLOCK OF FOUR. Mint, with original gum, hinged, with F-VF centering, but has a some gum disturbance, one thin spot, and some tiny thin specks. This issue is scarce with gum. A fresh-looking block -- multiples are seldom seen, especially with gum.

CR #9-11: 1886 November 19, Odense Historical Coat of Arms (picturing King / Saint Knud / Cnut / Cnute), Thick Colored Paper, Perforation 11.5. CR #9, the 3 øre, is red on orange paper; compare to #15 on yellow paper. CR #10-11 are both 10 øre, bronze and gold respectively; they are easily confused -- the CR #11 gold is much scarcer. Cnute was an important historical figure, said to be the last of the Viking kings, he was King of England, then Denmark, and then Norway. As such, stamps picturing him belong in several types of topical / thematic collections. His Wikipedia page is well worth reading.

Odense CR #10 [1886 November, 10 øre bronze, King Canute, Thick Yellow Paper] Used with F-VF++ centering, with neat, correct violet 2-ring local post cancellation. Very attractive example.

CR #12-16: 1886 December 22, Odense Historical Coat of Arms (picturing King / Saint Knud / Cnut / Cnute), Thin Colored Paper, Perforation 11.5. CR #15, the 3 øre, is red on yellow paper; compare to #9 on orange paper. CR #14, the 2 øre Green on Rose-Red Paper has a large, ornate "2"; compare to #20 with a smaller, plainer "2". Cnute was an important historical figure, said to be the last of the Viking kings, he was King of England, then Denmark, and then Norway. As such, stamps picturing him belong in several types of topical / thematic collections. His Wikipedia page is well worth reading.
CR #12: CR lists #12 as "yellow brown on white paper" and #13 as "brown on white paper". I have never seen an example of what I could could describe as a brown color (#13). Daka #12 is described as "brownish yellow on white paper" and Daka #12a as "orange yellow on white paper". Daka does not mention a "brown" color.
I have (so far, as of September 2025) identified the following colors/papers: JSA #12a Brownish Yellow on Grayish Yellowish Paper and JSA #12b Brownish Orange on White Paper. All agree that the papers are (very) thin.
JSA #12a Brownish Yellow on Grayish Yellowish Paper [CR #12?, Daka #12?]
Odense JSA #12a, CR #12?, Daka #12? [1886 December, 1 øre BROWNISH YELLOW on GRAYISH-YELLOW PAPER, King Canute, Thin Paper] LOWER RIGHT CORNER MARGIN BLOCK OF FOUR. Mint, with original gum, F-VF centering, but with modest vertical crease on the right stamps. While this has never been hinged, there is some slight gum disturbance, thus I describe it as Mint -- I think one stamp, on the upper left, could be described as NH. A very fresh and attractive looking "position piece".

Odense CR #17 [1887 1-1/2 øre green on Thin White Paper, Double-Headed Eagle] UPPER RIGHT CORNER MARGIN BLOCK OF FOUR. NEVER HINGED, original gum, with VF centering. Odense CR #18 [1887 4 øre "carmine" on Thin White Paper, Double-Headed Eagle] Used with F-VF centering. Neat, correct violet 2-ring local post cancellation. Very attractive. This example shows a aniline (i.e. dissolves in water) color/ink. This aniline feature is not mentioned in any of the literature that I have seen. I have not observed enough examples to know if all examples show this aniline ink or if actually more than one ink was used for the printing of 4 øre stamps.
