Scott numbers have been given for these listings. If you would prefer to examine the stamps before purchasing, or you are seeking stamps (or condition or quality) not listed here, you are also welcome to send your want list using Scott, Facit, or AFA numbers.
The images shown in this section are standard images of the issues from my image library; they are presented to show the designs of the stamp issues and not to show the specific individual stamps being offered. The centering of the stamps in the images is usually Superb or VF quality; again these are not images of the individual stamps being offered. Most DWI stamps had between two and eight printings, thus colors vary greatly; the colors in the images are random printings/colors.
All the listed conditions and qualities were in stock at the moment this list was prepared and I endeavor to maintain them in stock and to keep this website updated. However, my stock changes daily and (to paraphrase) good stamps are hard to find. If you are willing to accept a different grade or quality if an item is temporarily out of stock, please let me know when ordering (add a comment at the conclusion of the shopping cart process) and please also let me know of any alternates you will consider.

Scott Classic #5b Print 4, Facit #5d, AFA 5.4. Light Green and Light Red Violet on Medium Paper [1873 (1880 printing) 1 cent Bicolor, Perf 14 x 13.5, Normal Frame] Mint with F-VF centering, but has either been regummed or has disturbed original gum. I believe that this has disturbed original gum, likely from long ago removing an ancient hinge remnant. Wonderfully fresh appearance with great color and excellent perforations. Examples, with or without gum, with such nice color are hard to find. All the printings that fall under Scott Classic #5b are scarce with gum. Facit 2024 value is SEK 500 with gum.

Scott #6a Variety, Facit #6b, AFA #6 Print 2, the THICK FRAME printing [1873 3c light blue and rose Bicolor, Thin Paper, Thick Normal Frame (Printing 2, 1876)] Mint, WITHOUT GUM, with F-VF centering. A wonderful, fresh-looking example with brilliant colors, excellent perforations, and better-than-usual centering for this stamp. This example came to me in a very small group of this printing, all without gum; I do not know why there is no gum. However, many early collectors believed that, for the best preservation, it was better to remove the gum from such delicate stamps. Such fresh-looking examples of this stamp, and without defects, are quite hard to find because the extremely thin paper was easily damaged. A very nice example! A Mint Hinged with-full-gum example of this stamp, with this centering, would quickly sell for $95.

Scott #7 [1873 (1878 printing) 4 cent Blue-Oval Bicolor, Perf 14 x 13.5, Normal Frame] NEVER HINGED with Fine centering. Wonderfully fresh with great color, perfect perforations, and perfect gum. Though this is not a "scarce" stamp in normal quality, Mint Hinged or Used, a high percentage of the examples one sees are very poorly centered or have some sort of damage (because of the very thin and brittle paper). Examples that are NEVER HINGED, this fresh, and without defects are scarce.

Scott #7 [1873 (1878 printing) 4 cent Blue-Oval Bicolor, Perf 14 x 13.5, Normal Frame] Mint with F-VF centering. This example has actually never been hinged, but there is a little bit of gum glazing due to the type of stamp mount it was in; most people would not even notice that. Otherwise, it is wonderfully fresh with great color and excellent perforations for this issue. Though this is not a "scarce" stamp in normal quality, a high percentage of the examples one sees are very poorly centered or have some sort of damage (because of the very thin and brittle paper). Very attractive and very reasonably priced.

Scott #7b [1874 4c yellow-brown and ULTRAMARINE Bicolor, Perforation 14 x 13.5] Mint, but WITHOUT GUM, with F-VF++ centering. An exceptionally fresh and bright example, wonderful color, terrific centering for this stamp, and "perfect" perforations. "Very scarce" with such nice perforations. This example shows the tell-tale faint "checkerboard" appearance of the central ultramarine color that further confirms the first printing ultramarine printing. A beautiful example with excellent centering for this stamp and wonderful overall appearance. A very high percentage of the examples of this stamp offered in the market in the last 50 years have been without gum. A Mint original gum, hinged example with this centering would sell quickly at $420.

Scott #7d INVERTED FRAME [1874 (First Printing) 4c yellow-brown and ULTRAMARINE Bicolor, Perforation 14 x 13.5, INVERTED FRAME] Used with F-VF+ centering and proper type of 4-ring mute cancellation, but with defects. Though this example looks nice from the front, it has a rounded upper right corner perforation, a moderate thin, small creases, and tiny marginal tears. Though these defects should not be under-emphasized, they are only obvious under very close inspection. That being said, this is a "VERY RARE" stamp and Used examples are "rarely" found in undamaged quality because of the extremely thin paper. Only 2000 sheets were printed, and with Inverted Frame stamps only in sheet positions 18 and 77 only 4000 Inverted Frame stamps originally existed. However, because the possibility of Inverted Frame stamps (generally, on the Bicolors, but not yet specifically on this stamp) was not discovered until about 1900, collectors were not aware of them for at least 25 years after this stamp was issued (and all the supplies exhausted) -- but it was really about 45 years after this stamp was issued that collectors started searching in earnest for inverted frame stamps. Lasse Nielsen [2001] stated that around 1900 Alfred Jacobsen proved that Inverted Frame stamps could exist on (some of) the Bicolor stamps. However, that "caused at that time no interest at all" and that it was "only around 1920, philatelists became interested in the matter". It was not until 1930 that Hagemann was able to survey the full sheets of Danish and DWI bicolor stamps in the postal archives, identifying the sheet positions in which Inverted (or other Isolated) Frames could be found. While reliable information started to be published soon after that, the work of studying the archival sheets continued into the 1940s. Even though this 4 cent stamp was a "workhorse" stamp of its era, the vast majority of the 4000 First Printing (Ultramarine center) Inverted Frame stamps were quickly lost to time. Though defective, this is an unusually nice looking and bright example, with wonderful color and nice centering for this stamp. This example shows the tell-tale faint "checkerboard" appearance of the central ultramarine color that further confirms the first printing ultramarine printing. Because the survival rate of Used 4 cent First Printing stamps was so low, both the Normal Frame stamps and the Inverted Frame stamps are scarcer Used than Mint. However, the Inverted Frame stamps are valued even more highly because so few existed (just 2% of the total First Printing) in the first place. The Facit 2024 Classic Catalog value is SEK 20,000 (US$2,000 3/2026) The AFA 2016 Specialized Catalog (still the most recent edition as of 3/2026) value is DKK 15,000 (US$2,400 3/2026). The Scott 2026 Classic Catalogue value is US$2,400. No matter the quality, this is one of the rarest DWI stamps!Accompanied by a Jay Smith color-image certificate with Lifetime Guarantee (my life) (guarantee details upon request). This is the only Used example of this stamp that I have recorded having in stock since I started recording them in 1990s.
