Denmark: Locals: Kolding
Danish local post stamps are best cataloged by (and is the primary numbering I use in these listings) Christensen and Ringstr÷m which is in stock. The Daka Local Post Catalog is also sometimes used with numbers in [brackets]. The Daka catalog is also in stock.

Condition standards for locals are not the same as for regular stamps. In certain issues minor defects are the norm. Defects that affect the value or appearance of the stamps will be mentioned. As always, all items are guaranteed, as is your satisfaction.

I have an extensive stock, including parts of the Ringstrom collection, of mint and used locals available via approvals. Tell me about your interests.
The Kolding local post was established in 1886 and ceased operation 30 April 1900. Stamps were issued in the years 1887-1889 and were regularly, genuinely used, though covers are very rare. The 1880 population of the town was 7141. Kolding locals are much less often found in general groups of Danish locals. Mint examples of Kolding local post stamps are usually found without gum. Examples with gum are scarce and sell for higher prices.

Kolding CR #1 [1887 2 °re ("÷re") yellow-brown Bird, Haystack, Tree] Mint F-VF without gum as typical. Bottom margin 6-BLOCK. Facial scrape on top center stamp; small thins on both center stamps -- stamps on left and right are excellent. This is the only mutliple of Kolding #1 that I have had in 46 years; it is from the Ringstr÷m collection.

Kolding CR #2 [1887 3 °re ("÷re") yellow-brown Castle in circle] USED F-VF with violet, bold "Kolding Bypost" cancellation. CR cancel #2: not in oval, with curved Kolding and small K (2.5 - 3 mm). The middle scarcity of the four known Kolding cancellations. This may be the only used example of stamp #2 that I have had in 46 years.

Kolding CR #3 [1888 3 °re rose Castle] Mint Fine without gum as typical. Lower right corner margin horizontal 8-BLOCK WITH "C. Ferslew..." PRINTER IMPRINT in right margin. The printer of the 1887 stamps was not known to CR, however the 1888 stamps were printed by Ferslew and the 1889 stamp was printed by a local printer in Kolding. This is only the second Kolding item that I have had bearing the printer imprint. An outstanding and important position piece.

Kolding CR #3 [1888 3 °re rose Castle] Red color shade, seldom offered. USED VF with neat violet cancellation, on small piece. The cancellation appears to extremely faintly tie the stamp to the piece, but the tie is so faint that I am not able to guarantee it. If this is tied to the piece, it is the only Kolding local post stamp I have ever had in 46 years on piece (or on anything). CR cancel #2: not in oval, with curved Kolding and small K (2.5 - 3 mm). The middle scarcity of the four known Kolding cancellations. A very nice item!

Kolding PROOF CR #P3 (Proof of CR #3) [1888 3 °re rose Castle] Imperforate, strong orange-red color, full-sized single upright and with partial inverted impression of two stamps (same stamp and color), both on same side of paper. In 46 years, this is either the only or one of two (I may have purchased this back when buying the collection of an earlier buyer) examples of this proof that I have recorded having. Mint F-VF bottom margin example (large margins on top and left, very large bottom margin) and just touching on right side) without gum as with all the Kolding proofs. Very striking appearance!

Kolding CR #4 [1888 3 °re green Castle] Mint VF WITH ORIGINAL GUM, heavily disturbed. The only with-gum examples I have personally seen all have heavily disturbed gum and all have come from the famous Ringstr÷m collection. Even so, this is the scarcest "regular" stamp of Kolding and is scarce without gum and very scarce even with disturbed gum. Attractive and seldom offered!

Kolding CR #5 [1889 3 °re purple-brown Castle] Mint Fine, without gum as typical. This 1889 issue is known to have been printed locally by a firm in Kolding and has small design difference from previous and has dividing lines between the stamps (unlike previous). The centering is virtually always poor; this example is typical or a little better. Examples with gum are scarce!

Kolding CR #5I IMPERFORATE with EXTREMELY DARK COLOR on EXTREMELY THIN PAPER [1889 3 °re purple-brown Castle] Mint Superb PAIR, with margins out to the dividing lines on all four sides, without gum as typical. This 1889 issue is known to have been printed locally by a firm in Kolding and has small design difference from previous and has dividing lines between the stamps (unlike previous). I have never seen this imperforate with gum. Due to the different color and different paper, I suspect that this is actually a proof; no such proof has been cataloged either by CR or Daka. This is the only example of this color and/or this paper that I have recorded for this stamp, either imperforate or perforated. Outstanding item!
