9 [1975 50 oyru Map] WHITENED PAPER variety. When compared under long-wave UV light, the paper of the variety is distinctly whiter. [This observation is only valid on stamps that have not been soaked.] Ink color is usually darker than the average 50 oyru. This variety seems to be quite scarce. It is not listed in any of the catalogs, however, it has been known for quite a while and was further reliably reported by Quarles, but he was never able to track down specific paper sourcing information that explained it. NH VF single.

2 [1941 20 on 1 overprint] Used F-VF+ centered with nearly full VESTMANNA "starless" cancellation. This 20/1 value seems to be much scarcer than the others with the uds/starless cancellations and commands a premium.

1980 Europa 150 Green and Black First Printing "Burned Issue". Engraved by SLANIA and printed in two colors (black engraved, color lithographed) by the Finnish Stamp Printing Office, this issue (both values) were rejected by the Faroese postal authorities due to printing quality problems (in the plate making process, poor water quality resulted in small defects in the black engraved portion). The Faroese authorities dumped the stamps in the Torshavn town dump for burning, however, the destruction was apparently not well supervised and was incomplete. Children playing in the dump found and kept some of the stamps. Most of the 150 value stamps were either destroyed or very badly damaged (nice looking 150 examples are very rare though still without gum; value around $1300); most 150 stamps were burned or became wet mush. [The second printing was done in Switzerland, in a single color, entirely engraved, requiring Slania to make a new or further engraving. On the 150 value, the position of the text at bottom was changed. Thus the first printing is a complete different Slania issue. Until I personally showed him an example in 1997, Slania had never seen the final printed result of the first printing!] This example was badly damaged and was reconstructed and partially supported by a small piece of paper. Despite the quality problems, this is a rare stamp. (Includes an example of the second printing.)
