273 [1952 25 kr Parliament Building] Used with VF centering, and neatly struck YEAR-DATED 1957 REYKJAVIK cancellation. While this stamp is not particularly scarce in Used condition, it is remarkably difficult to find with a year-dated cancellation. In my experience, fewer than one out of 30 examples have a year dated cancellation! Excellent example crisp engraving impression and perfect perforations. The centering on this issue varies considerably; well-centered examples can be hard to find. |

(A set of single stamps this nice would fetch $60 or more; this set of blocks is priced below that break-up value.) |

305 [1957 Bessastadir (Presidential Residence)] NEVER HINGED lower left PLATE NUMBER 1 CORNER MARGIN BLOCK OF FOUR with VF-XF centering. A fabulous example of a key plate block of this era. There is only one plate block per sheet and only one plate number position for each stamp issue. There is no catalog that lists these plate blocks, but the are remarkably hard to find; especially for this high-denomination "key" stamp. (Single stamp of this quality sell for $30 each, but plate blocks are incredibly scarcer!) To the best of my recollection, this is the only example I have had in 49 years! |
