Scott #7b [1851-54 20c King Leopold I in oval frame, double-L watermark without frame, on thin-medium wove paper] Mint, lightly hinged with original gum, XF-Superb centering with four enormous margins for this issue (even catches the margin to the stamp to the right of this one). Bright color, very clear engraving / printing, and very fresh in all respects. There are stamps and there are STAMPS... one can look at thousands of stamps and suddenly just one will reach out and touch you. This is such a stamp. This issue is notorious for small or no margins; there is just a total of 1 mm between stamps, to be divided between the stamps when they are cut apart. Needless to say, to get a an example with huge margins like this means that 8 (eight!) other stamps had to suffer with small or no margins! The not-thick paper of this example makes it #7b instead of #7, but the catalog value difference is only 10% higher for #7b. If you do not care about the paper thickness, do not let that distract you from obtaining an incredible example that you can just as easily label as #7. The quality of this example puts it into the 99th percentile and thus makes the catalog value for normal examples somewhat irrelevant. This stamp has come from a very old collection that probably last saw the light of day in the 1930s. It is time that it found a new loving home.
