| Faroe postmarks have been most recently cataloged and valued in the DAKA 2010 Faroe Islands GF10 Stamps and Postal History Catalog which I have available. The Daka postmark numbering system, which I normally use, is different from the previous Wowern system. Scott numbers have been used for the stamps unless otherwise indicated. I have a broad stock of towns, types, and eras of Faroe cancellations including star, starless, town/bridge, ship, etc. The displayed items and much more of all types of Faroe cancellations are available for viewing on approval; please request approvals. |

| A little known, but important, category of Faroe postmarks are the so-called "office stamps". These are postmarks, but were only rarely used as cancellations on stamps -- usually only when a cancellation device was lost or damaged, or to later cancel stamps that missed being canceled at the point of mailing. They were most often used as receiving, transit, or forwarding markings on covers or receipt / signature markings on postal forms such as parcel cards or postgiro payment forms. These are handstamped markings, typically four lines such as "Postverk / Føroya / [Date] / [Town Name]". These handstamps ARE A TYPE OF POSTMARKS! They are not (yet) listed in the Faroe postmark catalog listings, however, they deserve to be listed and are in important, if little-acknowledged, aspect of Faroe philately. A secondary purpose of this website section is to document with images, systematically starting in 2024 (plus a few items seen earlier), what I have seen, so that future catalog authors / publishers may draw upon this information. While the size/scale of these markings may be variable in website images, the size can be extrapolated based on the size of stamps and other postmarks in the images; also 100% size TIFF images are available to researchers. |
