Facit #RM 1a and RM 2b [1878 Rose-Lilac "ubesörget" and 1872 Dark Green "uindlöst" Returned Letter Stamps; NK #R1y and R2x] Set of two stamps with "SPECIMEN" OVERPRINTS. NK states that such overprints exist and Facit states that they are "rare" but does not give a valuation. Both stamps are Mint, No Gum (typical for Specimens). The Rose-Lilac stamp is F-VF with no defects. The Dark Green stamp is Fine with a tiny thin speck (typical for these stamps). Both stamps bear an expert mark of R.F. Engel who was active, or at least living, until 1943. This is a very rare set. 2009 Facit value for normal examples of these two stamps is SEK 9500 = $1330 [9/09], however, these SPECIMEN overprints are much more rare! |

With the usual thin spot (most examples are thinned); otherwise price about $175. The perfs do clear the design which is often not the case, however, the top margin has been REPERFORATED. Attractive and very reasonably priced. |

Facit #RM 2b [1872 Dark Green "uindlöst" Returned Letter Stamp; NK #R2x] Mint VF centered (very scarce in VF) example with nice deep color and full gum (scarce). With the usual small thin spots (most examples are thinned); otherwise price about $1300 for VF. Damaged top left corner perf and a hidden sealed tear, and a couple of the thin spots show as dark spots on the front side. An extremely scarce Dark Green stamp seldom offered in Mint condition. Attractive and reasonably priced. |
