B1-3 [1930 Nordkap set] Used VF/F-VF (B1 F-VF, B2-3 VF+) with matching correct 1933-35 bilingual Norwegian-French "NORDKAPP / LE CAP NORD" cancellations applied at the post office on top of Nordkap, at the time, the northern most post office of continental Europe. A handsome matched set.

B2 [1930 20 + 25 øre Nordkap] Used VF+ with neat (D)OVREBA(NEN) 1930s-type RAILWAY cancellation. This cancel on this stamp is scarce -- from 1930-1931 this stamp was only sold at Nordkap and Oslo, and then through 1935, this stamp was only being sold at a few additional locations: Bergen, Trondheim, Hammerfest, and on board the Hurtigruten Bergen - Kirkenes ships. Uses at other locations, and especially on trains even after 1935, are seldom seen as before 1936 the stamp would have to be brought in by the sender.

B3 [1930 30 øre Nordkapp semi-postal] Used with Superb centering. Perfectly centered, fresh stamp with VF "RJUKANBANERNE / *" 1934 railway cancellation. The cancel is scarce because the railway line was only 16 kilometers (10 miles) long and ran from the Norsk Hydro HEAVY WATER (needed for nuclear weapons) plant at Vermok, through Rjukan, to Mael. (This plant is famous for its later WWII role: Allied bombing and commando raids, sabotage, and the sinking of the ferry from Mael carrying heavy water on the journey to Germany.) This cancel on this stamp is RARE -- In 1934, this stamp was only being sold at Nordkapp, Oslo main post office, Bergen, Trondheim, Hammerfest, and on board the Hurtigruten Bergen - Kirkenes ships. Uses at other locations are seldom seen since the stamp would have to be brought in by the sender. An outstanding example, interesting in several ways.

Design similar to and related to Scott #B24 [1941 Norwegian Legion] ca. 1941 ESSAY by Harald Damsleth (who was also the artist of the issued Scott #B24) for the "Norwegian Legion" semi-postal issue. Design in horizontal format; cliche 32 x 17 mm, in orange red, on gummed 105 x 90 mm paper. Original drawing is in the Norwegian Postal Museum. Very seldom offered and in extremely strong demand from collectors of WWII-era material. [The Norwegian Legion was formed by Nazi sympathizers to fight alongside the Nazis against the Allied forces. Originally expected to have a more "glorious" role in Northern and Western Europe, the Legion ended up on the Eastern Front where they suffered greatly. This essay has always been scarce, but I suspect that many people in Norway would rather forget this chapter of Norwegian history, thus they are very seldom offered or displayed.]
